This review is from: Marcello: La Stravaganza - Duetti & Cantate (Audio CD)
'La Stravaganza' Duets and Cantatas by Benedetto Marcello and performed by the group, La Venexiana is a great little discovery for those of us amateurs who happen to have a taste for out of the way music. To the culinary mind, it's sort of like discovering the spice, galangal, which is sort of like ginger, but isn't.
The most charming aspect of the recording is the voices performing the duets. The least charming aspect of the recording is that it sounds as if the recording was done in a very big church sanctuary rather than in a drawing room, where it would most likely be performed. It seems as if this may just be music where a modern approach is better than a simple setting. keep the old instruments, but move it to a modern studio. Still well worth the listen. |
