harsh words,

One of the reviewers said this was so horrible, it was a waste of electrons. Perhaps the waste of electrons was his review. Granted, this music really isn't my cup of tea, but I found it ok, quite palatable. Just wanted to chime in.

I love most of the music on this sampler. I had never heard of some of the artists, but now I am a fan of The Rural Alberta Advantage, Old Canes, and Orenda Fink. I already knew the Mynabirds and Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson from NPR. Download this sampler, you won't be sorry.

I love the 2008-2009 Saddle Creek Sampler, but this one... not so much. There was almost nothing noteworthy on this album. High Ground was decent. A few others were OK but even free this is just taking up space on my play list and I will end up trashing most if not all of them. A major disappointment when the last sampler was so good. Hey free is free and its worth checking out, you might disagree but if you dont have the 2008-2009 version here on Amazon yet, I would go get that first or even just instead.

Departure from the norm,

This is a good collection. These songs are filled with unexpected turns and twists and musicianship is good. It will yank your mind in a different direction. Love it!

I love these Amazon sampler albums since I invariably find good, modern music here where the radio and television endlessly fail me. This is the second Saddle Creek sampler album, and I downloaded both albums simultaneously a while back, then mixed the tracks and put them on a CD for my car.In other words, I don't look up the names of the songs or artists until I find myself enjoying the songs. It seemed the tracks on this album took a little longer to come around than it did on the 2008-'09 sampler on average, but I find myself listening to tracks on this album more often nowadays. I'd suggest the songs here may take some getting used to, but once they grow on you, they'll be embedded further inside than the tracks from the other album. If you have time to listen to new music (i.e. when you're driving like I do), then try this one out. If you don't have time to listen to new music, then start with the 2008-'09 sampler for Saddle Creek.

I think this is a pretty decent collection, especially for free. Thanks to Saddle Creek and Amazon.

Downloaded the album. Started listening to the tracks. After listening to more than a few bars of Trust, Frank, May You Never, Ring Me Elise, Shark Suit, Jap Dad, The Song, and Hard Row, they immediately went into the trash. What a waste of electrons! So far, Little Bird Courage is hanging in on the strength of the brass section (a la Calexico). Don't Haunt This Place has smart lead vocals over a sweet cello, but the high-hat sound might be enough to trash this one, too. Numbers Don't Lie has a cheesy Vegas organ opening - get past that and it's got a cute pop sound which makes me happy to listen to more than once. The two from Orenda Fink are the only tracks that I would want to share with anyone whose opinion I value. Her music is a little too much like other girl singer/songwriter/guitarists to be amazing, but at least it's not weak like the rest of these groups on Saddle Creek.

I am amazed that anyone else doesn't love this. This is an amazing sampler with great music. I've only downloaded a handful of samplers, but this is by far one of my favorites. And it's FREE! Me = not complaining :)

most songs are unrefined (poor engineering so many sounds seem to clash with each other in a song) and uninspiring (either sounded familiar or just boring). I guess since it's free, if you like alt rock, it's still worth a quick download and just remove the songs you don't like, which would probably be most of them.

I cannot stop listening to this album! And I love that every time a friend here's me listening to it they ask who is this? Very enjoyable, and I only skip two songs.
