4.0 out of 5 stars A Missing Link
The game was not all that bad. I give it four stars because of the gameplay and the graphics. The bad part is the no season or dynasty mode. If season or dynasty, this would probably be the best college basketball game ever. You almost did it EA Sports, but you just fell short!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
This game isn't near what I expected from EA Sports. I'll give credit for the sharp graphics, but there are only two modes of play: exhibition and tournament. There is NO SEASON or DYNASY mode!!! Unbelievable!!! EA, you've again failed to make a solid college basketball product. I'll be returning my copy tomorrow. Potential buyers beware.

This might just be the biggest waste of money I've spent on a game. EVERY sports game I've ever owned has had some sort of season mode...how hard is it to have a season mode! I'm sure glad they put the "all important" create a team feature. What a waste of time. This could tarnish the March Madness name for years to come!

1.0 out of 5 stars What a waste of money, January 16, 2002

This game (was bad). I waited 3 months to get this stupid game and it just blows. There is no way a game of college should not have a dynasty mode to draft out of. College games of 3 years ago had this feature. All you can do is tournament and single game mode. Then to make me madder I bought it and could not get my money back from the store so I was stuck with it. I wouldn't buy this game to save my life. It just (was bad) big time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed emotions, January 15, 2002
This review is from: March Madness 2002 (Video Game)
Sure, I knew the game would not offer a season or a dynasty mode, but I bought it anyway. The gameplay is actually pretty good. Unlike the Live series, if you make a bad pass it will get deflected and stolen. The graphics and AI are also improved upon from the Live Series. You won't find open point guards dribbling around the top of the key until the shot clock runs down. No, they drive to the basket and shoot in MM. The lack of a season mode(for crying out loud!) is by far the biggest detraction from the overall quaility of the game. If you plan on playing this game mostly in Single-player mode, forget it. Wait until the next installment is released. You're getting closer, EA. Next time include the missing game modes and INCLUDE MID-MAJOR Div. 1 teams! Where are my Ball State Cardinals?!?!?

2.0 out of 5 stars EA Sports makes a BOO-BOO, April 2, 2002

In their rush to release this game for PS2 they forgot some VERY IMPORTANT pieces to this game.

1. The team list is missing a large group of teams. I think somewhere around 150 teams.
2. No season mode. This is the most glaring mistake. How can you have a basketball game like this and NOT have a season mode??
3. No dynasty mode. Once again, BIG mistake leaving this out.

The gameplay is fun, but without the above items, this game only goes so far. And that isn't nearly far enough.

Don't get this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars March Madness 2002 - A Leap Backwards, March 11, 2002

This review is from: March Madness 2002 (Video Game)
What happened EA Sports? As a die-hard EA Sports game fan I am sorely disappointed by this latest installment of March Madness. I have been enjoying the PS1 version, March Madness 2000 and was eagerly awaiting the release of this title on PS2. After all, with such a fun, strong game (MM 2000) and awesome releases such as NCAA Football for PS2, I was going to be in college hoops heaven!
Then I bought the game. I admit, I never looked at the box to see what features there would be. Why should I? Every other game has season and dynasty mode and they wouldn't make this update worse than one from 2 years earlier on the PS1, would they. Appears they would. I got this home and first believed I had a defective copy or something. I searched and searched for a season or dynasty mode. Then I come to realize - THEY'RE NOT THERE! What the heck? Playing through a season, dealing with injuries, etc... recruiting every year. These truly made this game a blast for a hard-core hoops fan. But, this version of the game has none of this. You can play through the NCAA tournament and that's all. No season. No dynasty. No fun after a couple hours. Sure, it'll be fun for hanigin with the buds and playing exhibition games. But, when I jones for playing a season, I'm back on MM 2000. Why would ES Sports release such a step backwards?
OK, the gameplay is in itself great. Graphics, fight songs, it's all there. Too bad the game doesn't deliver in any other way. My recommendation - wait until next year to purchase this title (if EA Sports corrects this letdown), find a copy of MM 2000 from PS1, or look elsewhere (989 Sports - that hurts). I can't, in good faith, tell any hard-core hoops fan to buy this game if you want it all. If you're looking for a play exhibition games with your friends kind of game - go for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars EA Committs a Technical Foul, February 10, 2002
This review is from: March Madness 2002 (Video Game)
I am a devoted lover of college basketball, and as such a love of college basketball games. This game was a natural purchase for me. Admittedly, I purchased it knowing that there was no season or dynasty mode. I don't think I realized, though, just how much those modes are the make-or-break parts of a good sports game.

I must say that the graphics for the game are well done, and the gameplay is an improvement on the NBA Live 2002 engine. I love the way players dive for the ball and the way that passes aren't automatically caught. These are the games finer points.

The lack of season or dynasty mode just plain brings the game down from a [higher price to a lower price] purchase. There are other annoying aspects of the game. One, EA has failed again to get many of the basketball courts right, especially the Kentucky court, which should be adorned with the gigantic UK symbol that is now in place. Furthermore, the tournament mode is very weak. Instead of being able to set up a whole tournament and play it out, you have to pick one team, and can only play that team's games. The coach's comments are also rather weak, as anyone who has played the game will testify.

In short, wait until next year, when EA will undoubtedly get its act together and put out a solid showing for PS2 in this series.

This game has incredible college atmosphere and fast paced moves. However, EA sports must have been taking a nap when they missed the most important partof playing team sport games...THERE IS NO SEASON CAPABILITY on the game. you can only play an exhibition or go straight to th tournament. What kind of boredom this will causd for al of us disappointed sports addicts. It's a shame but the playability is still excellent though. Maybe thy will get itright on th 2003 game.

I cannot believe that EA sports made this piece of junk as part of its otherwise superior sports series. No season mode, no historical teams, and limited replayability.. Buy a previous years' edition instead.
