4.0 out of 5 stars Resuscilent
This and Closer CD1 are what I would recommend for people to get the best of Nine Inch Nails;

March of the Pigs - this is the actual March of the Pigs song that appears on The Downward Spiral, so expect some sloppy production and sound quality. Nothing super-special. 3/5

Reptilian - awesome remix of Reptile, kinky love song to say the least (not at all what you are...

3.0 out of 5 stars good song, not enough done
I really like March of the pigs and felt disappointed that this CD single has so little done with it. Check out the inferior song Closer, where there are so many other versions on that CD Single.

This and Closer CD1 are what I would recommend for people to get the best of Nine Inch Nails;

March of the Pigs - this is the actual March of the Pigs song that appears on The Downward Spiral, so expect some sloppy production and sound quality. Nothing super-special. 3/5

Reptilian - awesome remix of Reptile, kinky love song to say the least (not at all what you are thinking), this one really creates an obscene image. 5/5

All The Pigs, All Lined Up - the perfect mix, this is what should have been on The Downward Spiral, not the original. The new ending might be a bit little long, but it's cool so that is a good thing. 5/5

A Violet Fluid - Short but sweet. Perfect length for this thing, definately the finishing touch on this single. 5/5

Underneath The Skin - Instrumental mix of Reptile (except for three "reptile" screams in the beginning). A good 75% of this song is drums-only. Fits in well as the closing track. 5/5

Overall, these tracks and their arrangement (with the exception of the mix quality of the original MOTP) are perfect. A must-have CD, this is one you can leave on a continuous play loop for hours at a time and not get sick of. This officially gets 4.5/5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME US Halo!, April 17, 2000
This review is from: March of Pigs / Reptilian / All the Pigs Lined Up (Audio CD)
Trent Reznor and Dave Oglivie teamed up to make one MONSTER of a maxi-single. It starts off with the title track "March of the Pigs". This is in itself (in its original album version) a fierce song that really gets you going. Any NIN fan knows that it is among Trent's best work. Next (I'm not sure of the order) is "Reptilian" which if a remix of "Reptile" off "The Downward Spiral". It was remixed by Dave Ogilvie. I actually like this remix better than the album version. It gives it a little more twists and complexity yet it still remains close enough to the original version to not p**s me off. "A Violent Fluid" is a short 1-minute instrumental. Short and sweet. It is basically the same loop repeated 10 times or so. Even though it is a cool loop, I wish a bit more had been done with it. That is why this maxi-single lost a star. "All the Pigs All Lined Up" is a "MOTP" remix which is equally as fast and furious as the original. "Underneath the Skin", also remixed by Oglivie, is another "Reptile" remix. It is mostly instrumental with few lyrics which makes it very interesting. If you are a big NIN fan who is seeking all the Halos, this is definitely one of the best! The other cool thing about this Halo is that it's a US release and you don't have to pay so much money! (don't buy the imported versions of this single....it takes both of the imported versions to get all the songs on the US version!)

5.0 out of 5 stars march of the pigs/reptile (reconstructions), November 6, 2005

The single that launched the Downward Spiral, once you start down the dark path, no turning back. March of the Pigs is the opener to a five track single. Starts with an awesome drum intro, kicks in with bass and mayhem. Reptilian, track two is a remix of TDS's Reptile. Great riveting, gut wrenchin' sounds and bass. All The Pigs, All Lined Up, MOTP remix, at almost 8 minutes, it's the clashing of the pigs, almost slaughter-like, parts of this song will usually find it's way into the MOTP song on stage and in concerts. A violet fluid is the shortest track on this disc but it hits the heart, whether it's a remix of 'Pigs' or 'Reptile', or it's its' own piece of music, fits the realm nicely. Underneath the Skin is yet another remix of Reptile, with more rivetting and wrenching scratches, beats and piledriving sounds. Hard hitting from tracks one to five. Chris Vrenna era drum style. produced with help by Flood (1994)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great single, but partially on "The Downward Spiral" reissue, May 25, 2005

A good single somewhat undervalued by the recent release of the deluxe edition of "The Downward Spiral", "March of the Pigs" was the leadoff from that album. In addition to the album mix of "March of the Pigs", it adds an extended remix ("All the Pigs, All Lined Up"), a small loop track ("A Violet Fluid"), both of which appear on the deluxe edition, and two mixes of "Reptile" ("Reptilian" and "Underneath the Skin") by Dave Ogilvie.

"March of the Pigs" itself is a great song, breakneck beats, powerful distorted guitars, and a venomous vocal fading into its bizarre piano break. The remix I'm moody about (its what Reznor's been playing live for years)-- essentially a slightly extended take on the track is followed by repitious vocal lines over drum beats as a coda. It works pretty well, but its a bit too long. "A Violet Fluid" is an interesting little drum snippet, it ends after just a minute, before it has a chance to get boring.

The two "Reptile" mixes are the real value here as they're unreleased elsewhere-- "Reptilian" is an extended version of the album cut, it works well in a long form, seven and a half minutes is a long time to drag on a piece, but it doesn't feel that way. The instrumental edit fares well too-- it certainly helps illustrate how far Reznor has come as an arranger from the almost minimalist days of "Pretty Hate Machine" and "Broken".

A limited value these days, but if you're a fan, you'll probably want the "Reptile" remixes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Step right up..., September 26, 2003

The blistering energetic burst that is "March Of The Pigs" was Trent Reznor's first choice of single from his brilliant concept album "The Downward Spiral". The single picks up where the album leaves off and rather than providing the listener with filler and predictable trash it compliments and expands on already great songs.

The remixes of "Reptile" and "March..." have often been touted as better than the originals. But I prefer to view them as entirely different songs which are great in their own life. The short instrumental track acts as a perfect bridge between the industrial crunch of the various mixes and this small E.P. is definitely worth a listen. Alongside the "Closer" single and the remix album "Further Down The Spiral" this single shows just how worthwhile a reworking of a song can prove to be.

4.0 out of 5 stars And all that were lined up..., October 27, 2001
This review is from: March of Pigs / Reptilian / All the Pigs Lined Up (Audio CD)
This is the first single to be released for the Downward Spiral era, and what a way to start it off! On this release, we have two versions of March Of the Pigs, two of Reptile, and a short instrumental.
March of the Pigs is a short, energitic, catchy track. What more could you ask for?
Reptilian is a bit long, and quite good. A nice little twist on the album version of Reptile
All the Pigs, All lined up, is like a extended version of MOTP, though this is good. It builds and builds like crazy towards the end, making it the best song on the single.
A Viole(n)t Fluid is just a filler, leading into the so-so, instrumental, version of Reptile.
If you like MOTP, or the Downward Spiral, go on, get your 10 dollars, and buy this.

All the Pigs, All Lined Up: longer verion of March of the Pigs, good not a fave. song 4. A Violet Fluid: short but sweet, should be called A Violent Fluid, puts me in mind of wine but i have the feeling it means blood song 5. Underneath the Skin: a cool remix of reptilian which is a remix of Downward Spirals' Reptile total time is about 25 minutes give or take ONE QUESTION? WHAT DOES BPM mean, after each song on the disc top, it has the name of the song, the lenght and then BPM and another number after that?

4.0 out of 5 stars Step Right Up, May 9, 2003
This review is from: March of Pigs / Reptilian / All the Pigs Lined Up (Audio CD)
A must for the halo collectors. A violet fluid is pretty strange and pointless. Reptilian is good. The march of the pigs is probably the most hypted up song on the downward sprial. At least the most energetic. The single is worth it for true fans. This origionally came in a 2 different packagings. I think only one is still available today.

5.0 out of 5 stars first taste of TDS, December 13, 1999

MOTP gives a really good insight into what TDS is all about. personally i thought it was a bit of an error to release the remixes of "reptile" on this cd before people actually got to hear the original version of "reptile", but the mixes are really good and are of course done by mr.skinny puppy himself, dave ogilvie. he puts the song through an industrial blender and turns out two very long and Very wicked versions of it.
