5.0 out of 5 stars Epic March November 1, 2012
Format:Audio CD
It was sad news indeed to hear of the passing of Threshold's long-time front man Andrew McDermott, for it seemed that the band had finally settled nicely into their new label deal with Nuclear Blast and had delivered one of their finest and most melodic, yet heavy releases ever with 2007's Dead Reckoning. Despite the incredibly consistent output of high quality progressive metal from this outfit over the past 2 decades, the one thing that has always eluded them has been a permanent singer. "Mac" - as he was affectionately called - was the closest they ever came to this kind of stability. Fortunately, Damien Wilson (Star One, Ayreon) - who debuted with the band in 1993 and also contributed vocals on their third release Extinct Instinct - agreed to rejoin this underrated, yet prolific band. The result is a stellar performance on his part, perhaps his best effort ever. March Of Progress is a glorious and epic concept album with extremely strong songs from start to finish. In fact, each of these songs could easily stand on their own. And while there are no growls this time around, the overall vibe is actually heavier compared to Dead Reckoning - partly due to the darker, less optimistic lyrical direction which focuses on socio-political issues and their impact on the present and future of our world. There is no doubt that these songs were created to showcase Wilson's vocal style - most the perfect balance of his more prog oriented leanings with the melodic choruses that have dominated this band's sound over the past decade. In addition to catchy melodies, the strength of Threshold has always been found in song writing (something I've long contested they do even better than Dream Theater), and there is no lack of either on this release. 5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the year. September 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I first have to say I own all of the Threshold catalog and this is my favorite. From the start of' Ashes', you know this will be one hell of a disc. That's 'Why We Came' shows Damian Wilson has a great voice and one fantastic song. 'Rubicon' is the longest song at over ten minutes and it does not seem like it. You must get the disc with the bonus 'Divinity 'on it . Another killer tune. While not has heavy as the last it is the melodies that make this such a great disc. Something I feel Dream Theater lacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marching On...... September 12, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I had reservations about the next album (even if there would be one) because of the untimely death of Mac. When I heard Damian would be singing lead again I was even more hesitant as I'm more of a fan of Mac's voice and feel Mac brought them more of their success. But, bands move on so I waited like everyone else to see what the band would deliver. I will be the first to admit that I am pleasantly surprised by the outcome of this album. To be honest, it's KILLER. I was afraid Damian would over sing his parts and lose some of what the band has establish since 1999's 'Clone' with Mac at the helm. Damian delivers as does the band. This is the first cd that they've done that actually clocks in at 75:45 minutes with the additional bonus track. Mac was very firm in producing albums that ran no more than an hour in length. So, for fans this is a treat. Stand out songs, there are none. They're all at the top of the game. If you love Threshold, whether with Damian, Glynn or Mac singing you'll be very much impressed with this release and deem it well worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true march for progressive music lovers! March 12, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This CD is great from start to finish! Good lyrics, and great music! This band should be better known. They are clearly a great progressive rock band. If you like Rush, Saga, Dream Theater, Enchant you will love this Cd! Buy it you will be wonderfully surprised at the awesome guitar riffs, good singing, powerful keyboards, bass and drums! This is a "March of Progress" for all die-hard progressive rockers! Best Cd that I have heard in years! Sorry Rush saw you twice last tour and love your new CD, but this CD is something special and I can not stop listening to it! This CD is worth hundreds of dollars that how good it is! Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Album! February 5, 2013
By Skold
Format:Audio CD
I will keep this short and sweet. This album took a few listens to for it to really impress upon me probably because of the quantity of long songs. The end result though is a thorough enjoyment and appreciation for what is a spectacular album. It is still distinctly Threshold but departs from the similar themes/sounds of "Pressure" and "Dead Reckoning" which were also excellent. This album offers a bit of everything while maintaining a unified feel/personality. I believe it might be my favorite album of 2012 (although I got it in 2013). I won't compare or rate the two singers but will say that Damien does a wonderful job at vocals. I will be loving this album for a long time and look forward to what they put out next too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome January 20, 2013
Format:Audio CD
I have 3 previous CDs by Threshold, Critical Mass, Dead Reckoning, and Subsurface, and they've become a new favorite for me. I usually take 3 listens to a new CD before rendering judgement and rarely give a 5 star rating. This was easily a 4 star on my first listen and by the 3rd it was a 5 star. The only other CD I can compare it to in recent stuff I've tried, in terms of quality and likeable (to me at least) was Arena's latest, Seventh Degree of Separation. I'm not comparing styles, just awesomeness. I'm becoming a huge Damian Wilson fan and he is incredible in MoP. Fantastic emotion and melodies that build, and high energy upbeat material for the most part. Highly recommended if you're tired of the radio drivel.
