4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely gives you your money's worth!, March 3, 2010

Well, for a free sampler I am more than impressed. Sure, it isn't perfect, and there is one song on here that I can't seem to stand at all, but for the most part this 5-track rock sampler more than delivers.

The opening track, `Free Energy' but a band called Free Energy, is just really annoying (and far too long for it's own good). It is bland and dated and uninteresting.

I hate it.

My hate ends there though.

Adelitas Way sounds a lot (and I mean A LOT) like Daughtry, and that isn't a bad thing. I like Daughtry. `Last Stand' is a generic rock track with nothing `special' about it, but its fun and in the end it is a good song. The lead singer could be brothers to Chris, but the comparisons are far from a deterrent. I'd listen to more stuff from these guys. The chorus is very catchy.

I like Sick Puppies, even though I've never really got into their music. When I've heard anything from them I've liked it and this is no exception. `Odd One' starts off mellow and then explodes in Sick Puppy fashion. It is a little catchier than I would have expected (it's similar to early Simon Says), but it works.

I had no idea who sand `Come On'. I thought it was Augustana to tell you the truth and so I was awaiting their `next' album to see it on the track list. When I listened to this sampler and found out that it was a band called Green River Ordinance I was happy to finally get my hands on the song. I love it. Shockingly, they sound nearly identical to Augustana (what is it with this sampler and sound-alike bands?). Still, it's a great song with a catchy chorus and that instantly memorable factor.

I don't know if I'm thinking of the right band, but I thought that OK GO was much more `pop' than this. I mean, I really like `I Want You So Bad I Can't Breathe'. It has an aged feel (that 60's jazz pop rock vibe) but it is far from what I was expecting, in all sorts of good ways. I understand the Prince comparison (totally nothing like him, but I can see the subtle influence). This is perhaps the best song on the sampler!

So, download this. It's free and it will introduce you to some new bands or, if you already know who they are, it will give you something new by a band you like.

Chew it over; it tastes pretty good.

4.0 out of 5 stars March Rn'R / Power Poppin'., March 2, 2010

Just download the complete album MP3 and it's free but I guess you pay if you do it individually.? Anyway, the songs themselves are worth downloading. OK Go do there power poppy, Prince'ish thing. Free Energy is an excellent 'more cowbell' fun type of song that exudes sunshine, t-tops or a convertible, friends and good times. Adelita's Way is very Daughtry'ish but catchy song. Sick Puppies is another good one from them off their current album and Green River is kind of Fray'ish but a catchy singable song. Take all 5 and enjoy...Later

Free for a day, but free no more. Amazon - what gives? Now its just a miscellaneous collection of a few songs that would otherwise be available from the artists.
