3.0 out of 5 stars Struggling...
This album is growing on me...slowly. I do believe we need to give artists support to grow and change. However, as much as I love L.F.B., I find myself wishing they had made the transition a little less 'bumpy'. Also, I think some of the cuts would have been better just left out. I will hope they don't stray quite so far from some of their earlier work on their next...

( And thats just the title track..)..Its lighter and some of the sense of humor the Cadillacs are known for a bit buried in Calavera come back with a vengeance in this album....Its was is a great additinon to their caltalogue...Maybe not for fans who esssentially want another El Leon...I just say that for all the fans that keep bitching about the past 2 albums....and antoher thing..They are not the same Ska Band of the mid 80's with its apex with el Satanico Dr Cadillac Album(My favorite album)...or even the same as they were earlier in the decade when they made El Leon, "Matador" and Rey Azucar.....they are maturing constantly growing as musicians..And at least they do what ever they want to do....and another thing...VASOS VACIOS IS A DAMN COMPILATION NOT AN ALBUM... Could you bastards who think this is the best Cadillacs album get that straight through your thick skulls....thats like saying Hey the Beatles Greatest hits is better than Revolver....Sorry rambled on there...

4.0 out of 5 stars LFC 2000, May 1, 2000
By
Enrique Torres "Rico" (San Diegotitlan, Califas) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
As a long time fan of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs I would rate this CD right up there with there finest works, maybe a notch below some. In recent years LFC have been becoming more and more inaccessible in their style. In other words if you're a fan and enjoy the growth and exploratory nature of their music you will still like their work. If you are a new listener and maybe have heard only one or two songs like Matador on the radio you may be let down. This a fine piece of work that reflects this bands maturity and growth. On this CD you will fine further explorations in jazz and a return to Argentina roots by making more use of the accordian for Tangoesque sounds that blend well with the pounding rhythms. Gone are the days when this band was a wild ska band that filled the room with music to party to. Imagine college bar then, sophisticated lounge now, same players different time period. They have mellowed with age, they have been around for close to 20 years but continue to release great music. The mainstays of the group, bass player extronaire Flavio, not to confused with the beefcake variety, is magnificent playing a variety of bass instruments as is Vicentico on vocals. I have seen them perform at various time in their long career and it it seems that lately Vicentico is getting a little bored with singing and performing. Nothing could be further from the truth on this CD as his vocals are in fine form with full range but always highlighted with his nasal style. This is not the CD to begin your collection with , Vasos Vacios,El Leon or one the many Greatest Hits CD's may be a better place to begin. If you like LFC this is a FANtastic piece of their latest incarnation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Musicians grow..., July 27, 2002
By
I have been reading reviews of this album and "Fabulosos Calavera", and while most were positive, I've noticed a great deal of negative reaction to the change in Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. My reaction is not anywhere close to negative. I think this CD is brilliant, from the infectious rhythym of "La Vida" all the way to the sad piano of "Alamo". We can't expect the Cadillacs to forever be stuck in the Ska mold. They're artists, and artists grow and change. They draw on the other great musical influences in their lives. This CD is somewhat mellow overall, but still has great power, and an excellent example of that power is track 6, "Pirana, todos los Argentinos somos DT". Vicentico's voice is amazing on the slower tracks "Roble" and "Aguila", Flavio's incredible talent shows in his basslines on "57 Almas", and I believe "Los Condenaditos" is one of their best songs ever. I can't imagine going more than a day or two without hearing this CD from start to finish. I feel that the Cadillacs are, without a doubt, still the best Rock en Espanol band around.
To sum up, I think if you are a true Cadillacs fan, you'll accept and love the band for all their changes, and maybe you'll grow musically, too. That's what it's all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars A EXceptional disc of the best World Latin ROCK Band, October 9, 1999
By A Customer
THis CD are A Exceptional disc of the best World Latin ROCK Band, you have to buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Otra vez estos tipos hicieron un "buen" disco, March 17, 2000

Jorge (Montevideo, Uruguay) - See all my reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars CADILLACS KICK ASSES AGAIN!!, October 23, 1999
By A Customer
FELICIDADES CADILLACS!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This CD, October 16, 1999

I am proud to be the first non-Spanish-speaking person to review this disc. Even if you're a language knucklehead like me, this album is accessible - the music is strange and wonderful, and it barrels through a seemingly endless array of styles and influences, hybridizing ska and salsa, jazz and lounge, funk and bossa nova... the combinations are limitless. Members of the legendary band Fishbone co-wrote the title track, and their ska-punk-funk wacky energy is felt elsewhere as well. LFC are currently on a US tour - check them out if you get the chance!

However, as much as I love L.F.B., I find myself wishing they had made the transition a little less 'bumpy'. Also, I think some of the cuts would have been better just left out. I will hope they don't stray quite so far from some of their earlier work on their next album...or at least give us a smaller sampling of changes to come. They are one of my favourite groups, and I am a non-Spanish speaking Canadian! I will keep my fingers crossed that the next album is a little truer to the previous albums that I love so much...while also trying to do them the honour of keeping an open mind.
