5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet romance, leaves me feeling warm and happy., March 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Marcia Schuyler (Hardcover)
The first GLH I read, and still the best IMHO. Marcia steps into the breach when her hoyden older sister jilts her groom at the altar. Leaving her home to take up residence with her new husband, she's subject to the difficulties of loving a man who has accepted her as second best, plus the machinations of the sister, who is outraged that young Marcia would presume to "take up with my David."

5.0 out of 5 stars Grace Livingston Hill: Pioneer of Christian Fiction, September 27, 2005
Grace Livingston Hill was my idol. I had been reading lurid, sexy books and then, I became a Christian. Then I realized these were not the healthiest books to read for
a young Christian trying to grow in Christ. I, then, read 89 of Grace's books. I scoured the stores for more until there were no more to be had. That's when I decided wholesome romance books were in demand but in short supply. Grace's books were my greatest inspiration and what encouraged me to write Christian Romance myself.
Still, many years later, I'm still (sign) hoping to come across a title of hers I may have missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars :), May 31, 2003
I'm 18 years old and I never read romance novels until I found some Grace Livingston Hill books that my mom bought. Marcia Schuyler was the first I read... I guess the picture caught my eye. I started reading it, and I could NOT put it down!!! I was laughing about it with my brother, telling him, "I'm actually gonna go read a romance novel now. I'll let you know how it is!" but I LOVED it!! The story was so captivating! I read the whole book, all 300 and some pages worth, in one night!!! *laughs* Since then, I have gotten alot of the other books and have really enjoyed my time reading them. Still, "Marcia Schuyler" is my FAVORITE!! I've read it 2 times, and it's also my mom's favorite. Grace Livingston Hill really captured a unique story with this one, a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting to find out what happens next. I think it is so sweet how the two main characters finally realize how much they love each other in the end.
If you want a sweet, clean, wholesome novel, I highly suggest reading this one!! I've even given it as gifts to my friends. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Gateway Book, May 30, 2011
This review is from: Marcia Schuyler (Kindle Edition)
I love reading romance novels but I had no idea that there were Christian romance novels beyond Redeeming Love. While that book was powerful, it's not exactly a book that leaves you feeling happy. After Redeeming Love I wanted to stay away from Christian Romance until a little time had passed. I saw Marcia Schuyler at a flea market and bought it. I started reading as soon as I got home. Wow!!! I was surprised. I finished it it late that night and went back the next day and bought the rest of the Grace Livingston Hill books. While I read those, Marcia Schuyler still remains my favorite followed closely by Amorelle.
I like this book because marriage of convenience is one of my favorite plots. But more than that, this book isn't cheesy like so many of the Christian romance novels you find today. These people seem more real than so many other characters I have read. The male lead, David, agonizes over what he has lost and how he must come to terms with where God has placed him. Marcia is so confused, and she is continually trying to figure out her place. These characters aren't driven by lust into each others arms, in fact, they almost avoid each other.
Their desire to do God's will is very well portrayed. Just because you decide to do the "right" thing, doesn't mean that everything after that will fall into place. For David, he suffered in an exercise to stop thinking of Kate because she had married another and so had he. Marcia marries David and it seems at so many turns she suffers from that decision, she still turns to God.
Marcia and David's desire to pursue God in the midst of their suffering is what brings them together.
Like I said, this book is a beautiful, beautiful picture of a couple turning from their wants and following God's path. The wonderful verse in the Bible that promises all things work together for the good of those who love Him definitely comes true. David especially realizes this, how he didn't not get what he originally wanted, but how much more God had chosen to give him.
All this may seem depressing, but believe me, this book delivers a non-cheesy AND happy story. This is a rare find!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved This One, April 20, 2007
By
This review is from: Marcia Schuyler (Grace Livingston Hill #83) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read many of Grace Livingston Hill's books, and I think this is my favorite. It is a story of a wife's deepening and maturing love, and a husband discovering his love for the woman he married. I especially enjoyed her description of David as he finally realizes how much he does love his wife. Holds up a high ideal of marriage.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of G L. Hill's best!, May 2, 2000
This review is from: Marcia Schuyler (Grace Livingston Hill #83) (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't remember too much about the story line, because I read it a long time ago, but I do know that it was one of my very favorites of Grace Livingston Hill's books. I remember it being intriguing and touching and almost classic. I play the piano, so, since Marcia did as well, that made it all the better. I remember it having an exciting ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Felt every emotion, December 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Marcia Schuyler (Kindle Edition)
This is by far one of my favorite books. I felt the characters sadness and joy. The revelations of their individual feelings, simply took my breath away. It was a bit sad when the book ended because I loved it so much. I wouldn't mind seeing this as a movie, ONLY if everything is taken from the book and no changes are made. I'll recommend this to anyone.
