While I agree with the other reviewers that this bench is sturdy, I have one MAJOR issue with it. The trays where the bar will sit are at exactly the wrong place for my (and everyone I have asked) hands. The trays are exactly as wide as my hand placement should be for normal bench. I either have to scoot my hands in and do narrow grip, or I have to go outside for a wide grip, neither of which are quite what I was looking for. Before you buy, check the width of the trays against your "normal" grip. If they are the same, I'd look for a different bench.

This Marcy "Classic Standard Bench with Arm Curl" is exactly what we were looking for in a home weight bench. My son and I wanted to start a weight lifting program to compliment the martial arts training we recently started and selected this bench because of the built in arm curl attachment and leg attachemnts. Here are my observations:

+ Sturdy; I am 5'10" 230lbs and feel very secure on the bench
+ Easy to Assemble; took two of us (both mechanically inept) about one hour to completely assemble, included all of the hardware on a well marked card and only required us to provide an adjustable wrench
+ Versatile; the bench is adjustable to three position which allows different muscles to be worked and the Arm Curl and Leg attachments add additional functionality

The included "Basic Weight Training Booklet" is just about useless, but there are many on-line resources with good information so it isn't a big issue. We also bought The Complete Idiot's Guide to Weight Training Illustrated, 3rd Edition, which provided a good starting point!

Highly Recommended!

I received this item the other day and was thrilled to finally have a bench to use at home (I have always hated gyms... too much of a meat market).

The packaging wasn't in too horrible of a condition when it arrived on my doorstep. Upon opening the box, I found that only a few bolts had spilled out from the individual bolts, screws, and washer holder.

Assembly wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. I worked alone at putting it together, in a hot, muggy garage. I had a couple adjustable wrenches, and it took me around an hour from start to finish. Instructions weren't too confusing, but they could have been much easier to understand if LESS information was included. I don't want to read anything that looks like a paragraph in order to understand that I have to put this screw through that washer through that hole. Simplified instructions would have been much easier to sift through.

After it was assembled, it didn't take up too much room in my garage. I'm 6'2'', and the bench seems a little short for me. I think I'll need to try to tighten the bolts that connect the bar holder(s) to the cross bar. It seems a little wobbly to me.

As some other reviewer mentioned, the part that holds the bar seems to be right where it feels like I would naturally put my hands on the bar, so it seems slightly awkward, but I'm new to this, so maybe this is the way it is supposed to be?

I haven't tried the leg or curl attachments. I assume they're both suitable. If not, I'll certainly mosey on over here again and bash away.

But, so far, delivery was fast and assembly wasn't bad at all. I'm just a little concerned about the length of the bench (it is kind of narrow as well) and the position of the bar holder.

The weight bench was easy to assemble out of the box and the instructions were specific enough to stay on track. Once assembled, the bench is solid, easy to use and adjust. It's a good value.

purchased TWO of these together. First the placement of the bar holder is in a place that is maybe one inch from your grab position so in many cases it is easy to place the bar back on the rack and CRUSH YOUR HAND. I am an experienced lifter and found this easy to do. SECOND both of my setups had the leg bracket torn or damaged after only one week using only 70 pounds of weights. I would imagine if you kept using this with it damaged the whole assembly would collapse and cause serious unjury- again the broken foot leg (where it connects to the main frame) broke in the same place on BOTH units with a week or LESS. ANYONE wanting to PRESS should purchase an OLYMPIC style benchpress with the upright bar holder spaced far apart so YOU CAN grip and push from the inside of the holders instead of going around the outside- this is the design used at all gyms. A shame that any company could not design with more thought.

OVERALL..

Nice, sturdy bench. Everything you would expect from a basic bench, got the incline, flat, & decline

BUT, the only thing i didn't like is the grip you have to use when your benching with this product. It's like a wide grip for me so i have to wide grip it to pick it up and then shift my hands to make it more comfortable for me.

Great price for a basic bench like this, box came a little beat up but that's okay. I had all my pieces, but when your putting it together.. try having someone else help you. And have a universal wrench as well cause the one it came with didn't really help at all.
