5.0 out of 5 stars Great price for a great beginner set!
Don't be fooled by the whimpy looking 5 lb and 10 lb kettlebells! One can make a very intense workout for a beginner with super slow (non-ballistic) movements, even if the typical kettlebell lift is ballistic in nature.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only need half the set--
I had never used kettlebells before, so I didn't know what weight to buy, so I thought this set might let me move up and down as needed. It turns out that the average woman can start with a 15 lb. kettlebell, so the 10 and 5 pounders are basically wasted. After a month, I am now starting to use the 20 lb. one as well, though, and I love the exercise. I like the Lauren...

The 15 and 20 lbs are very good once the person develops the form and fundamental knowledge of how to exercise with KBs. Note: KB's are not Russian, although were adopted and used in Russia extensively, where in the west they almost dissapeared with the advent of the adjustable dumbell.

Considering there is no shipping for this set, it is a great deal! Train carefully and smartly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good place to start, June 1, 2010

This review is from: Marcy VKBS50 50-Pound Kettlebell Weight Set (Sports)
This set by Marcy is a really good starter set to get you going. When I first heard about kettlebells they looked like so much fun so I bought this set which was reasonably priced (and you gotta love free shipping from Amazon!) Eventually, as you get stronger you will need to buy heavier kettlebells (the ones by Jfit, 30#, 40#, and 50# are solid) but these are just fine to get you going and they're light enough that the whole family can have fun working out together. Solid, consistent construction, nice vinyl protective cover. Once you get them, do yourself a favor and visit youtube and watch phil scarito teach you how to use them properly (no, I'm not him and no, he's not paying me.) There are a lot of fools out there that think they're showing you proper form that will get you hurt but phil's the real deal. I'm in the best shape of my life and I owe it all to kettlebells!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set for beginner/youth/female/mature, April 4, 2010

This review is from: Marcy VKBS50 50-Pound Kettlebell Weight Set (Sports)
I bought this set for my wife and was pleasantly surprised. These bells are cast iron, nicely finished and sport a vinyl dip coating (up to the handles) that are easier on your floors. The handles are pretty smooth so they won't tear up your hands though I would have preferred a slightly rougher surface for grip. Overall quality is excellent and included shipping makes them a great value. Unfortunately the packaging is sadly lacking with the bells individually bagged in thin plastic with only a cardboard barrier between them and two packing straps holding the box together. Box arrived a little beat but the bells were not scuffed or damaged. The included "exercise workout program chart" is pretty much a joke. It's a folded sheet of what feels like newspaper with a couple of bell exercises and a couple of regular dumbell exercises (bicep curl, bent row, etc.). Thankfully there are plenty of sites with info and quite a few good books on kettlebell training from beginner to advanced here on Amazon. I highly recommend this very nice set. Might even buy another for matched two handed exercises considering the price and small storage footprint."

5.0 out of 5 stars Reasonably priced, good product, April 16, 2010
This review is from: Marcy VKBS50 50-Pound Kettlebell Weight Set (Sports)
I've never used kettlebells before, I watched some videos on youtube and decided that they would make a great addition to my home workouts. The price is right and I figured I could use it for lots of different exercises and they don't take up much space. These kettlebells are nicely made and I don't have any complaints. I bought this set strictly for cardio, I don't expect to get stronger using them. I'm 125 pound female, and I think these weights are kind of light so if you're a guy you probably should get a heavier set. I primarily use the 15 & 20 pound bells for swings, squats, and cleans. At my local store those 2 alone would cost more than this set, so just think of the 5 and 10 as practice bells. I might add to them later, but for now I still go to the gym 2-3x a week to lift barbells.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Workout!, September 27, 2010
This review is from: Marcy VKBS50 50-Pound Kettlebell Weight Set (Sports)
These provide a great workout. I use a basic workout found in a Women's Health magazine. Item was shipped quickly and arrived safe, although the box was a bit torn around the edges, but that's OK see as it was a 50# box. Very pleased with my purchase.

I purchased these as a surprise gift for my significant other and was very happy when they arrived in a plain brown amazon box and then in another box inside that.

The weights themselves are solid, nothing inside and feel very weighty and balanced. Occasional spurs but nothing that hurts your hand, especially if you have gloves. Looked through a lot of other kettlebells when looking for these and am so happy I found these ones.

I was just starting out so I didnt want too much weight, but I also wanted to share these with my husband. It really has worked out. He uses the highest and Im still on the little one. Its a great mix of lbs for a beginner. The sheet of the workouts could have been on better paper, but after a while you dont need to even look at it. You get them down pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kettlebells & great price!, February 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Marcy VKBS50 50-Pound Kettlebell Weight Set (Sports)
I had originally bought two of these kettlebells at Sports Authority (the 15 & 20 pound kettlebells) for only $10 less than what this grouping, and that was with a 20 percent discount at Sports Authority. I happened to be shopping on Amazon that week for kettlebell training videos and came across this set of 4 kettlebells for such a great price. I was leary on purchasing them because there were a couple of reviews about how bad the shipping was. Even at Sports Authority, I had to weed through all the messed up kettlebells from awful shipping methods. But, I gave it a shot knowing I could return them if they were damaged. The 4 kettlebells came in a box and were perfectly shipped. That made me a happy camper. The kettlebells are cast iron with a rubber coating, and I am very pleased with them. The only thing I wish is that they would be different colors rather than black. ~Abby Campbell,[...].

I just got this set and really like it. It is all black and quite decent looking. Together they do not take up much room. I think it is important to have an affinity for the stuff I am working with, and this set fits the bill very nicely.

It is good to get a kettlebell set because it is hard to judge what my personal starting weight should be. Also I am pretty sure I will get through the lighter weights pretty fast compared to the final 20 pound weight. So I am glad to have the gradient weights to hand. I am looking forward to getting my form down pat before carrying on with the heavier weights.

The price is very good, because in the local store it was $69.95 for a single 25 pounder.

It is conceivable when I "outgrow" these I can sell them on Craigslist pretty quickly and get a heavier kettler later on.

It does come with a double-sided page of instructions. Steve Cotter does a lot of demonstrations on Youtube.
