From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6 A story about a girl with spina bifida, who is therefore confined to a wheelchair. Margaret wants to do the things that her friends and brother do, so as the book opens, she is trying to catch a prize balloon. Her brother helps her, but claims the prize, a baseball glove. Throughout the story, Margaret continues to compete with her brother. She wants a sports model wheelchair, while her father insists that she needs a waterbed. Rabe has a definite theme, that handicapped children can lead active and productive lives. Margaret and her friend sell lemonade and sing in the park, and Margaret gets a job stacking groceries in a store. Margaret is a believable little girl and her relationships with her family are nicely done, showing that life has similar ups and downs for the handicapped, but the ending is a bit contrived and sugar-coated.
