4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful accounting of history., November 13, 1998
By A Customer
This is beautiful true story of a woman who lived and loved in in Northern Florida during the 1800s. Margaret Seton had always loved Louis Fleming from the time she was a young girl and admired him from a distance as she was many years his junior. Years later when Louis' wife died leaving him to raise his children alone; Margaret was determined to capture the heart of the love of her life. The book brings the life of this incredible woman to life. Myself, living on the shores of Doctor's Lake on Fleming Island, I was drawn into their lives, and I felt as if I were there watching the Flemings as Margaret's joy and heartbreak came alive on the pages. I cried right along with Margaret, Louis and the children. At times, I found myself wondering if the Fleming family had ever picniced on my property or perhaps Louis and his son's had sailed by or fished out back. I couldn't put this book down. After finishing the book I was compelled to visit Hibernia. I saw the Chapel that Louis had built for Margaret and visited the family grave plot. It was as though I knew them. A definite must read for anyone that has an appreciation of the Old South or loves history. Accurate in details.

4.0 out of 5 stars Price's best, February 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Margaret's Story (Paperback)
For fans of Eugenia Price, this is her best. In my opinion Margaret's Story comes from an era years ago when Ms Price was at her best writing. Although the Civil War is becoming an increasingly common subject for fiction, M.S. is set in North Florida, a state that many forget was part of the Confederacy. Ms. Price chronicles generations of this state's history, from Indian wars into Reconstruction, through the eyes of the factual woman Margaret Fleming. Here Ms Price is at her best with characterizations-they're more full-blooded here than in any other of her novels. The story is often tragic but never boring. The character is one with whom the reader cannot help but follow.

This is a timeless romantic biographical novel of a gallant, fun and loving woman. As one who lives near the site of the book and who attends the Episcopal Church she had a great deal to do with establishing in this location (the first service in the chapel was her funeral), I decided to buy the book to keep with my other relevant material, even though I had read it many years ago--before I knew of the nearness of Margaret Seton Fleming's story.

Book was given to my friend as a gift. She has been hunting for these books at yard sales. I looked up Amazon and gave them as an early Birthday gift.

I was very pleased to find Margaret's Story on Amazon as this was the 3rd book of the series that I reading. By luck I had begun the series on a trip to St. Augustine in our motorhome and could not put down the first book. I became an instant fan of Eugenia Price.
I hope that others will delve into her mysterious, romantic historic novels. You won't be sorry and you'll be hooked on her for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Florida series, July 14, 2010

Margaret's Story is my favorite among Eugenia Price's Florida series. I felt as if I was living right along side Margaret as she went through so many events in life, from new and exciting love to war and it's aftermath to the end of a very full life. Very good read.

This book is wonderful. I had read it many years ago and loved it so much. We do not live far from the cemetery where the family is buried and the precious little church that Margaret had built. St. Margaret's Episcopal Church is still standing and it is very mystical to be there and see it and the cemetery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Margaret's Story - Review, February 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I would have prefered more history before my purchase but that did not come until I read
the book and then took a tour of Louise's B & B and the hospital. One day, I would like
to research New Switzerland and try to find some of the gravesites on the Island where
Margaret lived with her lovely family.
Eugenia Price wrote historically but some fiction/non-fiction. Most interesting.
