A very ambitious story in that it tackles a sticky, sort of unknown time in history - 1700's Florida back when it was a ping-pong game between England and Spain over who ruled the territory. That's not the interesting part though. The best part of this book is the character of Maria, or Mary, once the resident of what is now known as St. Augustine's Oldest House. Maria is an intelligent, resourceful, very beautiful woman who is very far ahead of her time. She comes through tragic loss and grief but somehow (you often wonder how) she is back up again, alive and battering life's doors once more. Read the book to know her if nothing else. A few love stories are intertwined as well. Well worth it. The first Price book I ever read and today I've read nearly all.

I couldn't put this book down. After visiting St. Augustine, then reading the book, I was truly walking the streets with Maria. I saw the same building she did and have the same awe for the town as she did. I read this book in two day...I couldn't put it down. Looking for the other two books in the trilogy. Can someone help.

Eugenia Price combined her outstanding writing skills with meticulous research and attention to detail. This was my first introduction to her work -- no one can surpass her mastery of historical fiction. Her work helped me to introduce History as a living thing to my own children.

This book takes place in Saint Augustine, FL (the oldest city). I really enjoyed the story line and the history. You can visit Saint Augustine and walk the streets and visit the houses that are discussed in this book.

The book was in excellant condition, I received it in the time I was told it would arrive, and the story was good, sometimes a little too much detail but very informative about the history of St. Augustine.

Having read all of Eugenia Price's work, some more than one, I have to say I really enjoy her works.

I fell in love with Historical Romance through her book Savannah and from there I moved on to read the entire Savannah Quartet. Once I finished the quartet I moved to the Florida Trilogy and the rest is history. I just really enjoyed reading about how these southern cities all came to be settled and history changed.

An excellent book for a person intrested in the history of St. Augustine and the surrounding area. Also, somewhat sad in places, but nonetheless, very good reading.

"Maria" makes St. Augustine come alive as you will experience the events of the colonization of Florida by the Spanish and British through Maria Evans' eyes. The role of British citizens in Florida during the initial planning period and during the Revolutinary War are depicted in this historical novel.

I'm ready to tour St.Augustine by retracing Maria'S steps.

I haven't acutally read this book yet, but the book was in great condition. It also arrived very quickly! Thanks!!
