After scoring a hit with Smooth, Santana hit #1 again on our Billboard Singles chart with this one. Carlos has no singing here, he just plays the guitar, and the Product G&B hit it hard when they need to. But the Pimpin Dolls remix ultimately grows annoying. That's the one thing I would personally do without. As I type, I'm trying out the new hit single Corazón Espinado (a dance remix, that is!).

"Maria Maria" is one of the great songs the great Carlos Santana has brought along in quite a while. It's the album's second single after the smash hit, exhilarating and romantic masterpiece, "Smooth," and "Maria Maria" also delivers. It has the texture of a romantic, sad street poem and people who aren't big fans of Wyclef Jean and the Product G & B will still enjoy because it's a well-composed piece with great lyrics and performances. We also get the treat of hearing Santana play both the electric and acoustic guitar. The Wyclef Remix is almost as good as the original album version and has more energy. But the Pumpin' Dolls Club Mix and Radio Edit aren't as great because the music in them just doesn't go with the lyrics or texture of the song and the performers sound like they're singing at the push of a fast forward button. Still, this CD is worth getting for the Album Version and Wyclef Remix (the instrumental is also nice to listen to). Santana has done it again.

I really like this song a lot. I don't usually like Santana's music, but this song is very high on my list of things I'd like to own.

I kinda liked Maria Maria. But the first time I heard Smooth, the Smooth was my favorite song. When it comes on the radio, I turn it off. Well at least sometimes i do. Maria Maria you should really hear. It is good. But "Smooth" is even better. "Smooth was the #1 song for 25 weeks. So I think you will like Smooth better, but you will also like this one too!!
