Mariachi Cobre are a talented assembly of musicians - Other than Mariachi Vargas I can't think of any Mariachi band more accomplished. Their performances are full of fire and passion and virtuosity. All of their recordings are national treasures (They are essentially THE American Mariachi), and this is their masterpiece.

There are many highlights among the generous 18 tracks, but I have to single out "El Balaju" - in years of loving Mariachi music I have not come across a better performance. Good Mariachi music is instantly identified by the complex rhythms laid down by the guitarrons and strings, the beautiful lines on the violins and the brassy pronouncements from the trumpets, but especially by the fiery vocals. There is nothing that drives from my ears to my marrow more certainly than a skillfully rendered Mariachi chorus from a group of beautifully harmonized voices. "El Balaju" combines all of these elements in a way that is astonishing. I challenge anyone to listen to it remaining stationary. The many other recordings mix slow ballads with up-tempo raucous romps, complex instrumentals with beautiful vocals. The only thing better than listening to this recording is listening to Mariachi Cobre in person - preferably with margarita in hand! Esto es muy bueno!

I bought this CD in Tucson while on vacation.We drove 9 hr. back home and listened to that CD over and over. It's great - so many different instrumentals. Especially love the guitar pieces. I had heard about Mariachi Cobre and boy, they were right on.

If you have been to the Mexican pavilleon in Epcot center, you might have caught this very talented group performing there. I did and was impressed enough to buy their CD. I think the CD is wonderful.If it sounds polished it is because the group actually sounds that polished live. This is no sad sacked trio annoying you at your table in a mexican eatery, this is a serious group who are obviously trying to uphold a proud tradition of Mexican folkloric music. I would recommend this CD to anyone who wants something fun and different, and I would urge anyone who goes to Epcot center to see this group perform live.

Mariachi Cobre provides a great cross section of mariachi songs which will enhance your listening pleasure. It is a great addition to any collection of Mexican music. One of my favorites is "El Pastor" because of its range in vocal and instrumental presentations. Anyone who likes mariachi music will not be disappointed with this album.

About five years ago I heard my first mariachi album. This was it and the richness of this groups sound overwhelmed me. They must be considered the best in th U.S. They filled me with so much pride that I actually began playing mariachi and aspire to maybe one day join the ranks of such superior talent. Cobre will not let you down. Wether its your first or hundreth mariachi cd, you will find nothin but satisfaction from this cd.

Growing up and listening to my parents music, especially Mariachi Varga, I was hesitant in thinking another Mariachi would come close. What a surprise! Upon listening to Mariachi Cobre, most of my family and myself went to the Mariachi festival in Las Vegas to listen to them. AWESOME!

A great enhancement to this vivid mariachi CD is that an attractive booklet comes with it. Included is a short history on the mariachi, the evolution of the instruments and info on Mariachi Cobre. According to the booklet, this world class group has performed for former President Ronald Regan's inauguration in 1984. This material is in Spanish and English.

Song Translations
What a treat to have the English translations along with the Spanish lyrics! And the font is big enough to read well.

This group is vivid! The many sounds of the mariachi instruments are present. The voices are varying, pure, rich and loud. Often times, the voices sound of a chorus, while the music is orchestral.

"Guadalajara" which often is strong on the trumpet, features the strumming of strings. It's unique. There is a lot of music I had not heard before. This is entertaining!....Rizzo

If you know good music, then this CD is a must for your collection. I have followed mariachi music since childhood and over the years have come to appreciate the finer things in life. I have to tell you Mariachi Cobres interpretation of the son de mariachi is simply the best. Great vocals, great music, great listening.

This is the best mariachi CD ever. It is the first CD of Mariachi Cobre and represents the best representation of mexican folk music. The quality of voice and music is second to none; strong, vibrant and rich. It was my first mariachi CD and after 15 years of collecting is still the best. A must-have for the mariaci afficionado.

Shopping for mariachi music is difficult when you don't really know what you're looking for, so based on Amazon reviews, I downloaded this album. It's awesome! Thanks to the other reviewers who spent so much time detailing the particulars of this album. It's my latest mariachi favorite!!
