Editorial Reviews

Review

"Abstraction gets updated or whisked off the table, crumb by crumb, in these sexy smoky poems. Gerry Gomez Pearlberg writes lines we can see and feel." -- Eileen Myles, author, School of Fish

"Here's somebody for everybody-connecting us all, one at a time, line by line, true to herself, true to you, too." -- Bob Holman, author, In With The Out Crowd

"[These] exquisite poems assemble the stuff of daily life so that they glitter and reflect, reminding us how our lives are lit by these constellations of the ordinary. This is a wonderful book of poetry, a lesbian re-reading of the night sky." -- Holly Hughes, author, Clit Notes: A Sapphic Sampler

Product Description

Gerry Gomez Pearlberg is a favorite of New York poetry audiences at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Biblio Cafe, and Dixon Place, as well as Lincoln Center, the Brooklyn Museum and WBAI radio. Her exquisite poems tell stories of longing and desire. "Watching her light up was like seeing the Messiah," she writes of Marianne Faithfull in the title poem. "Or Buddha's burning moment under leaves of cool desire." Filled with sharp, artful imagery, Pearlberg's poems are funny, poignant, and smart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to Interpret Poetry Book, April 14, 2008
This is a collection of poems.
I love poetry and can appreciate vague poetry and strange poetry.
This book has a few very nice easily interpreted poems.
The majority, though are words glued together (without grace, but maybe clumsiness)in a bizarre labyrinth in which I found myself completely lost.
I would have enjoyed this book much more if the poems tittles were more relevant, or even if there was a short sentence on the thought or inspiration behind the poems.
I'm sure they are very meaningful to the author, but it is much too difficult to comprehend them and I didn't enjoy the task.
Because I don't really understand the authors messages, I can't deny too many stars, as it's me who can't find the meaning. Someone else may find this much more entertaining, so I will rate it at four stars because of that.
I won't recommend it, however.
