More About the Author

How many of us know at age ten what we want to be when we grow up? And how many of us actually achieve that goal? I'm one of the lucky ones who did just that. I grew up in Colorado where my love for reading and writing was nourished by my family (I'm the oldest of eight) and my teachers. After getting my degree in English, I embarked on a career in writing for magazines and newspapers across the country which has lasted more than thirty years and which has grown to include the authoring of fourteen books to date, with two more on the way.

When I'm not writing, I spend a lot of time presenting my books in public appearances and conducting writing workshops in schools. My greatest joy, however, is spending time with my loved ones in beautiful Colorado. I am grateful to God for the gifts of faith, family, and friends--and for the ability to share my books with readers around the world.

Do you love the outdoors? Is there a young child in your life who needs to learn about the beauties of nature? Are you looking for a great story that has a message of learning to love what you have, not have what you love?

Maria's Mysterious Mission brings together a sweet story by a wonderful author, fabulous illustrations by a talented artist...and photographs of the Colorado Rockies by none other than award-winning photographer John Fielder...this is a combination that produces a super cool book. What is hard to believe is that this book has been out several years...and I don't see any reviews for it yet.

As you turn each page, you are instantly entranced by the majestic photos which provide the perfect backdrop for the illustrations. I'm always looking for great picture books that have strong messages about self-esteem and believing in one's own self-worth. I plan to use this story during my school visits to kindergartens and first grades next semester...I know that the kids will enjoy following the adventures of Maria, the llama, who is sad to have left her beautiful Andes Mountains...but soon learns that there is beauty in other places as well...and that friendships can be formed everywhere. Run, don't walk...and grab a copy of this priceless book!
