This paper doll book is beautifully rendered (like all of Tom Tierney's work), but it disappoints with it's lack of historical accuracy. Firstly, the doll itself bears no resemblance to the extant portraits of Marie Antoinette. In fact, the doll and a gown(plate 4) look as if they were based on a portrait of Madame de Pompadour. Marie Antoinette would not have been amused!
There are also a few costumes which would have been more at home in a Jeanette MacDonald musical than in the eighteenth century (most notably plates 4 & 15).
Having been a fan of Tom Tierney's work for many years, as well as someone who is fascinated with the eighteenth century, I expected more from this publication.

Grown-up, little girls, can relive their childhood now, because paperdolls are again available. For many years they seemed to be obselete or, at best, very hard to find. These paperdolls are a little more sophisticated, and much more expensive, but they're very nice.

This is a wonderful book for both paperdolls and for mix media art..no one could go wrong ever with this authors books..B.W.

I found this same paper doll book at Barnes and Noble and it was pricey. I decided to check on Amazon and saved about 11$!! This was used, and not a scratch. It took a little longer for shipping than the other books I purchased on the same day, but in the end , very worth it.
