This historical fiction novel is about a young princess named Marie, Marie Antoinette. She goes through many changes such as family members dying and herself getting married to the lousy King Louis Auguste. She is the princess of Versailles, France, 1769. Although she is now the princess, she is to be the queen of France. When she realized that this job is harder than she expected, she tries her best to make her mother proud.

King Louis Auguste had a very dull heart but Marie Antoinette opened it up for the poor king. She taught him how to wade in the water and she smiled at him every day. As she had said, “I think Louis is as nervous as I am about marriage.” It was definitely worth it for her.

I think ages 7-16 would read this book. Mostly girls, but maybe some boys. Girls would like it more because of the princesses and it is about a queen’s life!

My favorite part was when she opened up Louis’s heart and waded in the water with him. That was very nice of her to do that with him and I think that made a connection between them.

If you like stories about queens and princesses and you enjoy learning about history, you will enjoy this one!
