Excellent for children interested in physics or chemistry.,

This review is from: Marie Curie (Compass Point Early Biographies series) (Paperback)
While the book "Marie Curie" by Dana Meachen Rau is short, it is informative as well. The layout was very pleasant and kept my child entertained. Not only were we able to talk about the story of Marie Curie's life but we also used the pictures to discuss what life would have been like during the time she was alive.
This book introduces complex vocabulary and ideas in a way that is an easy introduction to physics and chemistry. Not only are the terms (such as Nobel Prize and radium) explained in the body of the book, but a glossary is also included at the back. Be sure to also check out the internet links at the back of the book as well. "Marie Curie" is an excellent introduction to scientific ideas and thought to children. It also is a great way to let kids know that they can overcome obstacles. Through this book we learned that not only did Marie Curie overcome economic obstacles but also societal views towards women (she was the first female professor at her university!). This is an excellent, and quick, read for both boys and girls. My son even asked to read it again! |
