Works Well,

I have been using this soap for about 3 months now (it really is long lasting... hardly takes any water to lather up) every day and it has been effective in taking off oils, foods, odors etc. from my hands. Bought it on a friend's recommendation...definately an improvement to what I used before by far and after using it my hands don't smell like anything. I use a basic soap holder to keep it off the counter - you do need to use something to drain it even if its just a folded up washcloth. I've stopped using hand moisturizer at the sink also because it doesn't seem like I need it anymore. Does it really last a year? I will follow up once I find out!
Edit: So my chef's soap bar has whittled down to a tiny little chunk of soap. So far it has lasted over a year though I didn't use it three times a day... (I often skip eating breakfast so it was more like 2.2 times a day?). Really happy about it and I will probably get another bar for Christmas, hint hint. :)

12/01/10: Well, here it is (almost) a year later and I haven't been socked by my wife (WHEW!). There is still about a tenth-or-so of the bar left. About August, it fell into two pieces, and we're working on the last piece now. I'm very happy with this. It lives up to its hype. Highly recommended!!!!
Cannot tell if it'll last a year (and my wife has marked the calendar so she'll know if she needs to sock me for buying a $20 bar of soap!), but it does work well and requires very little rubbing to get a good lather, and definitely no smell. I've got ours on a Waterfall Soap Saver (which I also highly recommend, BTW) and just rub the top a couple times with wet hands.

This purchase was a gift item for my daughter's boyfriend who loves to cook and make chocolates. His approach is both technical and organic is style and I was looking for something unique. This soap fit the bill perfectly. It has the practicality necessary in the "real" kitchen in that it is biodegradable, non scented, and allows for frequent hand washing while cooking without infusing unwanted scents and flavors into the foods. Additional value is the clever, massive size that definitely brings a chuckle while being so practical, that I will be interested to see if it does actually last a year. It looks as though it will! I supplemented my gift with a hand built soap dish from a local ceramicist. This product is well priced for what you get, and delivery was well within the specified time.Marie's Chef's Soap 16-Ounce Bar of Biodegradable Kitchen Hand Soap

And really long-lasting. Not sure how long yet, but I keep mine by the sink on a sturdy stainless-steel wire soap holder screwed into the backsplash (old-school) and swipe a cloth across it for getting the faucet and fixtures sparkling in addition to cleaning hands, fresh fruits and veggies, and so on. I have dry skin, or used to when I used petrochemical detergents in the form of national brand bar "soap", liquid shampoos and so on. I tried this in place of Kirk's Castile, and I must say, Kirk's is fine and well enough, but this is far better, and an even bigger value because it's gentler on hands, not scented at all (Kirk's has a mild soapy fragrance), and this is the densest, hardest, longest-lasting bar I have ever seen. It was a couple of months before the letters even wore off the front of the bar.And it does clean the stainless faucets and fixtures better than anything, while somehow not causing problems with skin or nails. Oh, and leaves absolutely no trace of scent or flavor on foods I wash with it. I plan on making it a fixture in my kitchen and perhaps bath as well. |
