About the Author

Cervantes is a world-renown expert on indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse cannabis cultivation. He puts more than thirty years of expert cannabis growing knowledge and hands-on experience at your fingertips with his books, articles, and photographs. His expert advice has guided millions of growers worldwide to apply simple, effective horticultural techniques to high-yield closet, basement, backyard, medicinal, and guerilla gardens. In his monthly question and answer column, Jorge's Rx, in High Times, the flagship of the magazine's cultivation section, Cervantes solves growers' problems with definitive clarity. He also pens a regular column in Soft Secrets. The magazines boast the biggest circulation in North America and Europe respectively. Cervantes still finds the time to contribute feature cultivation articles to High Times, Burst High (Japanese) and a dozen European cannabis magazines. Multilingual Cervantes also speaks at eight international cannabis fairs in Europe every year. With five books in print and more than a half million books sold, you can find his work in Dutch, English, French, German, and Spanish.

More About the Author

"Jorge Cervantes is the most trusted name in marijuana cultivation" - High Times magazine

Jorge Cervantes is the nom de plume that George Van Patten took to conceal his identity from 1983 to 2010. Van Patten wore black dreadlocks and a beret to cloak his public identity. The disguise allowed him to enter illegal cultivation circles. Cervantes came "out of the closet" in a 2010 interview on National Public Radio (USA).

Cervantes is a world-renowned expert on indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse cannabis cultivation. He puts more than thirty years of expert cannabis growing knowledge and hands-on experience at your fingertips with his books, articles, photographs and Youtube videos. His expert advice has guided millions of growers worldwide to apply simple, effective horticultural techniques to high-yield closet, basement, backyard, and guerrilla gardens.

Cervantes traveled to five continents and lived British Colombia, Canada, California, Oregon, Washington State in the USA and the Netherlands and Spain to research cannabis cultivation. He continues to research, publish, make videos, and draw a discussion about his favorite plant with an international community on his forum at www.marijuanagrowing.com.

Don't buy Marijuana Horticulture as book to read. Buy this one instead. Marijuana Horticulture is a great reference but you won't use all the things in it, even if your planning a huge operation. This book is easy to read. Gives better step by step information, in a more organized format. What I really liked was the photos and descriptions of what the plants should look like during the bloom stage at various time. LED lights which are the way to go are covered here. LEDs are not covered in the big book.

This book is great for anyone wanting to do private growing. I did a bit of research before choosing this one and I think I made the right choice. The pictures are excellent and he doesn't get into too much technical writing which keeps it really basic for beginners. I highly recommend this book if you have no idea where to start.

Just read through this... there isn't much more in this book that you can't find in Jorge's other book Marijuana Horticulture. That book is much larger and more comprehensive and includes the majority of the information found in this Grow Basics book... Nice pics though.

I love this book. It is full of really nice pics that are very helpful to any grower. There are a lot of sample gardens to mimic, this book also contains all the info needed to set up a garden anywhere. I also have Marijuana Horticulture the indoor medical grower's bible and love it but this book offers all the same important info along with better pictures. This book also has information on grow "tents/labs/cabinets" unlike the bible. Jorge Cervantes' books have been very helpful to me and countless number of friends. I would recommend this book and the bible to anyone interested in herbal medication cultivation. However, if you could only afford one book, I would have to say that this one is best because of the pictures and grow tent information. Jorge Cervantes for those of you who do not know is the master in cultivation. He is very knowledgeable in this area and is considered to be a legend! Viva la Jorge Cervantes!

I've always loved the Sacred Herb, so I was in the bookstore looking at books about it and came across this one, I wasn't sure yet if I wanted to actually try growing it, but I figured the book would be interesting to read nonetheless, so I bought it. Read it in a few days from cover to cover, and was completely convinced I could grow it with ease, now I have his other book(and a small plant growing outside), Mariuana Horticulture, which is just as good, just ALOT more information to take in. This book is great for the beginner who has never tried growing canabiss before, and has all the information you need to grow your first crop from seed to harvest. I would reccomend it for anyone even remotely interested in the process of growing your own medical or recreational marijuana.

Basically this book is the "canine" of cultivation guides. (Think of it as a grower's best friend)!

I snagged a copy after hearing just about EVERYONE recommend it.

Jorge Cervantes (the Master of Marijuana) is the original pioneer of marijuana growing, and this book really puts a growing newbie on a clear path to success. It was one of the "first-evers" and today, it continues to be a top resource for new patients, caregivers, and cultivators.

I'm impressed by the knowledge that is in-depth - yet SO simple to understand!
Jorge has a true talent for growing the good stuff...and also for TEACHING!

(I know: I can hardly keep mine on the shelf. It's a great reference).

In a nutshell, I'd recommend this book for the top 5 reasons:

1. It gives you step-by-step instructions.
2. It's easy to follow.
3. And it's easy to remember.
4. Pictures are great!
5. And Jorge is AWESOME.
