Book Description

January 1998
Millions of Americans believe marijuana to be a dangerous drug that leads to addiction. Slowly this myth is melting away, allowing the therapeutic uses of the plant to be taken more seriously and transforming its use from taboo to legitimate medicine. Useful in the treatment of cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, migraine headaches and various other illnesses, marijuana is rapidly proving to be an effective alternative to conventional drugs. From pain management to asthma, marijuana is a versatile drug that the authors recommend be used only under medical supervision for the treatment of a myriad of conditions.

Active in the fight to legalize marijuana for medical use, all three authors succeed in bringing education to both the public and the health profession regarding medicinal marijuana and its effectiveness in treatment. Dr. Bill Zimmerman managed the successful 1996 Proposition 215 campaign in California, which allowed doctors to legally prescribe marijuana for specific conditions. Combined with the medical and scientific credentials of Drs. Bayer and Crumpacker, this title is a comprehensive overview of one of today's most controversial subjects brought to you by the health professionals responsible for bringing medical marijuana to center stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars I know of no other medicine that treats so many illnesses!, June 22, 2003

This review is from: Is Marijuana the Right Medicine for You? (Paperback)
The book is well-written by a Ph.D. and two M.D.s who have researched the subject thoroughly.
The book not only discusses the ailments that everyone knows marijuana is useful for treating (glaucoma, chemo sickness, etc.); but it also covers lesser-known medical and psychological problems that marijuana helps treat, such as depression, PMS, arthritis, Crohn's disease, and even its use as a "backdoor" drug to wean addicts off deadly substances like heroin and cocaine.
Topics also include the myths about the health dangers of this medicine, why this medicine is still illegal in the United States, how patients obtain this medicine, and the best way to take this medicine.
This book is a must-read for anyone who suffers from an illness that pharmaceutical drugs just aren't helping and for all DEA employees.

3.0 out of 5 stars Medical Marijuana, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Is Marijuana the Right Medicine for You? (Paperback)
I enjoyed the book, which provided a plethora of information about the use of marijuana for medical purposes. However, the book tries to come off as neutral and just a presentation of the facts, but some of the uses for marijuana lacked the necessary proof to be considered legitimate. The book was pro marijuana and this bias clearly comes across as your read the book.
