Not that there's anything wrong with that. As a matter of fact I'm very fond of my Averil, Ashlee, and Kelly CDs, but sometimes you just want to listen to something that goes a little deeper, that appeals to the brain *and* the heart. This beautiful, well-crafted indie album never fails to move and inspire me.

A big part of the charm is Laura's lovely voice. So often singer songwriters have to rely on character rather than, well, vocal excellence. But Laura's voice is just about pitch-perfect. Warmly emotional and yet restrained -- she's what I think of as a singer's singer. She can raise the roof when she belts it out or dissect your heart with delicacy and precision. I'd be happy to listen to her do nothing but covers, but I believe every song but one on this album is an original.

Most listeners will be familiar with "I Will Think of You" from the TV show Army Wives, but I think my favorites are the title track "Marilyn Drive" and "Right Where You Are." I think if you've ever had a close friendship that was lost to time and tide, that one will catch you by the throat. Oh, and "A Little Like Me." I don't have children, but as a devoted aunt...well, a hundred listens later, that one can still make me cry. On the up tempo side is the playful "Better at Hello" and "I Really Don't Care." Been there and done that!

In fact, I don't think there's a song on here I don't like -- that's pretty rare for me!

If you're hesitant to give an indie artist a chance, I urge you to try this album. You won't be disappointed.

I saw Laura perform @ Butlers coffee in Palmdale, CA. She is an amazing performer and songwriter. She is truely blessed with a voice of an angel. I still cant decide which is my favorite track. I havent stopped listening. "Marilyn Drive is the best CD I have bought in a very long time.
