Guns, God, and Government,
By A Customer
This review is from: Marilyn Manson - Guns, God and Government World Tour (DVD)
..."Guns, God, and Government is a rare look at one of the world's most controversial artist's lifestyles both on and off the stage. Shot throughout the U.S., Japan, Russia, and Europe this DVD spotlights the performance that has made Manson truly infamous. This DVD contains features which gives the viewer an 'All Access Pass' to off stage life and a glimpse behind the scenes as the tour takes the band from Tokyo to Berlin, Moscow to Rome, London to New York and everywhere in between."... The Death Parade is a 30 minute short film of the band's trip around around the world with the Guns, God, and Government World Tour. This includes Manson's trip to the Emergency Room, Degenerate Sexual Behavior, the first acoustic performance of "GodEatGod" in NYC, Manson performing with Eminem, and Burning Flag. There are many more shorts in The Death Parade including various concert footage, backstage happenings, lots of nudity, and religious people in the streets trying to ban Manson's concerts. The total running time is approxamately 107 minutes. Audio options for the DVD include Stero, 5.1 and DTS. Overall, a very good show from Marilyn Manson. He puts a lot of energy into his shows and you'll see it on this DVD. So much energy that after the concert is over, he can't even stand on his own two feet! If you are a fan, you will not be disappointed. In the words of Manson, "This will help you see what it's like to be nailed to this wrecking ball".

-Many of these reviews have been writing prior to the release of this DVD, so their basis is off of guessing and expectations. Since the release of this DVD I've watched it beginning to end 3 times and looked it at all possible angles. From every perspective - entertainment, quality, material covered that was actually at the concert, replay value, etc.-As far as entertaining, if you're a Manson fan and have never been to one of his concerts, this is an perfect look and near concert experience from the Guns, God, and Government tour. During which Manson experimented with new stage acts including the "holy garments" worn of clergy, different lighting and pyrotechnics which added great effects and new excitement to some of the older songs, and a platform that lifted him to the top of the stage. -The sound quality of this is superior to any other DVD I've heard or seen. The image is crystal clear and the sound is beyond great. If you have a home theater surround system, this is going to utilize it perfectly.- -Lastly, the DVD is shot in succession. The first hour and 20 minutes or so are songs played one right after another just as it would be at the concert itself. Rather than playing clips of a song, cutting to backstage scenes and clips then going on to another song or something of that nature, the concert is played in its entirety. Then there is a nice little 30 minute short film called "The Death Parade" that has all of Marilyn Manson's little endeavers on it, from backstage shots, to christians protesting the concerts on the streets, to Manson himself whiping chicks and throwing bottles at people. Its all great footage. -Final words: There is no good argument that anyone can come up with that would be correct when trying to put this DVD down. Manson and his crew have done an outstanding job on the quality of this DVD. Audio and video are sharp, and crystal clear. Lots of great songs including Disposable Teens, Anti-Christ Superstar, Beautiful People, Lunchbox, Great Big White World. Anyone who puts this down is either not a real big fan of Marilyn Manson or is just smoking crack. Entertainment: 5

The Guns, God, and Government World Tour DVD highlights Marilyn Manson's tour around the world by piecing footage together for the 17 song set and also includes a rowdy and downright hilarious half hour documentary. The live set nicely displays how great the stage shows are at a Manson concert; and the crowds respond with unabashed worship towards Manson and crew. Standout songs include "Irresponsible Hate Anthem", "Great Big White World", "The Nobodies", "Rock is Dead", "Cruci-fiction in Space", "Sweet Dreams", and "Lunchbox". The aforementioned documentary is a nice bonus, but for the price of this DVD, some other features could have been included, but all together this DVD is better than I thought it would be.

Great audio, Great Video, Just keep in the same country,

everything about this DVD is great, i've been a Manson fan since my parents said i couldn't listen to it back in 1997. The one thing this DVD has that was not needed, was the switching through shows, it's play one song and you see it from 4 countries. One show he has a big hat, flash to the crowd, then hes just got pants and a lot of face pant. At one point in Sweet Dreams he has this woman on stage about to get naked, then BOOM, it goes to some other show where it's just him rolling around on the stage. So if you don't mind the constant changing, then you have nothing to worry about. But me, i like to see one show and all the crazy stuff Manson will do on stage.

I've bought VHS of Marilyn Manson: God is in the TV two years ago and it was great. 1 hour of Music clips, plus additional 1 hour live from tour. It was the coolest VHS I've ever seen.... Until now. 2 days ago, I find out in the shop long awaited DVD GGG. I came home and insert it into my DVD Rom. I only check out, if DD 5.1 is active and immediately press play button. The show, which was waiting for me, was indescribable. I have seen Marilyn Manson in Prague,Czech Republic, but this DVD offers much, much more. It includes records from Japan to Europe and (of course) scenes, I've never could see (anywhere). I love this band!! They're like no other I'm listening to or even I know. Every MM fan MUST have it and see it on his own eyes!!!!

Not AATCHB (Nine Inch Nails: Live) intense, but it is a different band of a different style. This DVD I think delivers just what it is supposed to and that is Marilyn at his best. He is a shaman of sorts to open our comatose eyes to reality. He puts on a rockin show. Being in 5.1 surround the sound quality is awesome and the picture is very clear. The concert captures all the best parts of each song performed with clear and smooth transitions, for the most part. I love the effects of his show and the feelings he brings out. At one point, he comes out on a black covered platform, I presume, and looks larger then life. On the "Nobodies", he performs in painter's stilts to highten his vision that he wants to share with you, a little part of his world. The 30 minute documentary, "The Death Parade", was enjoyable but I guess I was expecting a whole lot more. Personally I got a better view of the person and his life on the road on his "God is in the TV" video. But the poet put this together himself and showed us what he wanted. This DVD is trully a great accomplishment for Marilyn, a artist who never stops to amaze.

The best live DVD I have ever seen,

I have been a fan of Manson since the Antichrist Superstar era. I must say, I was a little hesitant at first purchasing this DVD. I haven't been a big fan of live DVDs (with exception of NIN: AATCHB DVD) because the quality usually disappoints me. However, this DVD was made to near perfection. The mixing was great. I saw in another review that someone didn't like how each song had different shots from different concerts, leaving you "confused." Unless you are entirely stupid, you will not be confused. It was one continuous soundtrack, but the shots match up perfectly (or almost perfectly) with what he is actually saying to how his mouth is moving.. he only appears in different costume. This DVD is great, and the 30 min "death parade" also exemplifies how much more of an intelligent man Mr MAN5ON is. Dont miss out on this DVD.

Marilyn Manson Live is a sight to behold. His vocal range is intense and the band makes the songs that you love so much even more enjoyable. Examples would be the end to Beautiful People or Sweet Dreams with the Hell Outro, it's just insane! The only complaint that most people have is that it was filmed in multiple countries, the angle changes can get annoying. I think the best example of that is the Irresponsible Hate Anthem. It hurt my eyes the first time I watched that song, but most of the people who complain about it must understand this, I've been to a Manson show, and when they played it, the strobe lights went crazy, and here they try to replicate that, but it doesn't work quite as well. The combination of strobe lights mixed with angle changes with every change in the song isn't necessarily the best thing. Another complaint would be that because of the changes his clothes constantly change over and over again. In one shot he has this helmet on and another he has a dress on or he has paint on him or in somewhat normal Goth clothes, I could go on forever. But this DVD is so good, that I could care less about those things.Every song is played with amazing quality and sometimes better then the studio versions. The props Manson brings out make it all the more interesting and never get you bored. The audiences for these shows are absolutely HUGE by the way. One of my favorite moments is during the love song Manson comes out wearing a pope outfit or something and John 5 plays a double guitar. As with the song list, its great, its only missing Angel with the Scabbed wings and more songs from the portrait era, as they only play Lunchbox, I would love to see Dope Hat, but you can't have everything I suppose. The death parade documentary was entertaining, disgusting an hilarious, but I felt it was too short or still missing some things. but once again you can't have everything, that's why they make B-Sides. All in all this is definitely worth the money and definitely worth your time. If you haven't seen Manson live before this will convince you to. On an additional note, Amazon.com has misspelled government, look on the box itself and you will see it is spelled correctly.

The god of lyrics is back! With his unique, strange way, M.M. gives us a great show of rock music! It is not only the show, the songs that make it great but also the 30-minute documentary that shows what it is like to be backstage at such a concert! Since we learn more about Marilyn Manson in general I would suggest it not only to M.M. fans but also others! A great DVD that when combined with surround gives you the impression that you are in the concert! Great!
