Many people aren't aware of it, but Marilyn Monroe was a very capable singer. She had a beautiful, rich, sexy voice that transcended the breathiness of her screen voice. Most of the songs presented here are from her films like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Niagara, There's No Business Like Show Business, River of No Return, and Let's Make Love. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great artwork to enhance the look of your collection of albums.
I am a bit letdown by this collection. Due to so much hype, I expected so much more from Marilyn Monroe. I mean, I actually needed to sit down and reevaluate some things before going into reviewing this product. The problem is that, I went into listening to this album with the intent of hearing a great Traditional-Pop singer of the past, this is not the case. The truth...

These include the famous Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend and Lazy, but several are alternate takes from those used like Bye Bye Baby. Still more are not from films at all. Do It Again was a seductive song that Monroe sang to entertain troops in Korea which was later changed to the less risque Kiss Me Again. You'd Be Surprised is also a fun, sexy song. Perhaps the worst song is the Happy Birthday sung to JFK, one of Marilyn's most popular musical performances. You probably will not find yourself tuning into it much. The rest is top notch.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great artwork to enhance the look of your collection of albums., July 29, 2014
The truth is, Marilyn Monroe was an actress, a beautiful actress with a plush and delicate persona. Her beauty came first, and onto her screen plays. This collection is based on the most remembered songs from the Musicals she appeared in that she applied vocals to. Not a compilation of 'Marilyn Monroe-Hits', you see? She is not the greatest vocalist at all, but, the songs she sang in pictures are memorable to those who have been an audience to her film. If you've enjoyed watching Marilyn, it's great to put an album (such as this collection) on and visualize, or reminisce of those segments as the music plays. If you're more like me, and most people who have purchased her posters, framed them on your wall, because she's 'pretty', this package can be a bit disturbing. This is not to say that she's the worst vocal performaner ever, but, with something as easy to purchase as an Mp3, or CD, listening to this compilation of songs does not give me any ammunition to see the movies they were extracted from. Probably, if I'd been introduced to Marilyn Monroe seeing her on screen, and in movies first -- then I could appreciate this package as the true celebration of her efforts. Her motive was not to be a singer, and this is evident, however, in some songs she's a tad better than in other ones. Overall, I would've much rathered hear Ella Fitzgerald singing these songs, they fit her voice so much better. I think 'File My Claim' is one of the better songs from this album, along with 'I wanna be loved by you', and her signiture song 'Diamonds are a girls bestfriend'. It'd be nice to actually enjoy the vocals as much as the great lyrics, and music, but, unfortunately, singing was not Monroe's strongest point, obviously, but, she captivated and held interests in other areas of her career. No one performer has it all, and certainly not her...
