5.0 out of 5 stars Marina and Small Craft Harbours, October 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Marinas And Small Craft Harbors (Hardcover)
This is an excellent global overview of everything concerned with modern marina development. It covers subjects from a socio-economics of marina users, historical development of recreational boats and harbours to financial data on building and running a modern marina. Attention is paid to regulatory requirement and environmental considerations including mitigation of wave impact, fuel and sewage facilities to the merits of different break-wave and mooring structures. Modern trends such as the increasing length of boats to dry storage facilities are covered to allow planning for the lifetime of marinas built today. The manual is written for marine designers and operators but is so well illustrated that even technical data can be clearly understood by a lay person. The authors' 30+ years' experience in engineering design and teaching is put to excellent use in this quite comprehensive book. Well worth the money!

Everyone who is professionally involved with the marina business, design, operation, financing, insuring MUST have this excellent reference book. It is easy to read, provides very useful and balanced information, amply illustrated with charts, photos, illustrations and references. Unlike most other marina design books, Tobiasson offers simple "rules of thumb" to help understand, plan, design and maintain marina structures. Of particular strength is its section on wave protection from storms and wake. Anyone with marina experience will agree that without good wave protection no marina structures can survive very long. Highly recommended at any price.
