These aren't run of the mill coloring books,

This might be the greatest way to self teach a topic ever devised! You have to follow the instructions. What the authors want you to do is read along as you color the book. Each coloring page has an associated page of text. As you read the text it makes reference to certain parts of the drawing. You can't help but learn. The topics range over all areas and habitats of marine biology and hit all the key points covered in any introductory class. They are grouped by habitat, physiology, ethology and again by taxonomic groups. As far as learning style? If you where isolated in the middle of the dessert with this book and a decent set of color pencils then you would come out with an excellent broad base introductory knowledge of marine biology. It would go well with any beginners course also. Don't let the "coloring book" title fool you, a child of five wold enjoy it but an adult would be able to reap all the rewards as well.

Being a high school teacher, i use this book and the biology coloring book to supplament my class text. It offers very insightful text to accompany each picture. The pictures are very detailed with complete coloring instructions. I was skeptical at first to use it, but the students really get excited about it and seem to get a great deal from finishing them.

I am a college student who found this to be a great secondary resource. Many of the form and function and reproductive strategy summaries contain great information that I have not found in textbooks. The coloring pages are great too, if for no other reason than they reiforce what the organisms look like.

This is a fantastic way to learn about biology...and remember it! Anyone--adults or children--taking a class in marine biology should definitely pick it up

Coloring & Learning go hand in hand,
This review is from: The Marine Biology Coloring Book, Second Edition (Paperback)
As the author of The Complete Hawaiian Reef Fish Coloring Book and a school teacher, I know first hand, that coloring and learning go hand in hand. This book is great for all ages, younger children are challenged, older children and even college students are introduced to all types of marine ecosystems and their inhabitants. This book is complete, well written, educational and fun!I highly recommend this book!

My kids thought it was so-so (it's not really for kids) but it was great fun for this mom (maybe I'll be a marine biologist when I grow up)!

Homeschoolers - Pay attention!,

My first grade daughter has had it in her mind to become a marine biologist for the past 2 years. I decided for science this year we would delve into marine biology using this book. We have been working in it for 3 weeks. The text isabove her head, but works well with my 4th grader. My first grader is enjoying coloring the different ocean currents, and will love it when we get to actual sea life!!

I bought this book to supplement the Zoology Coloring Book and also because my husband might be teaching oceanography in the future. I use it all the time in my high school zoology class. The pictures are great, the kids enjoy coloring (they think it's "not real work") and it forces them to spend some time with the diagrams and they almost "learn by accident".
I also scanned the book into my computer as a PDF file. This way I can put some of the diagrams into their tests. This way they can have the same diagrams throughout the unit and don't have to learn a new one on the test. Highly recommend. It would also be useful for an undergraduate taking an intro to marine biology course.

Wonderful to leaf through, and covers a wide variety of topics. This book is more than a coloring book in that it gives a succinct, detailed, yet very easy to read information page with coloring instructions to go along with the material. The reading was better put than some of my textbooks for class and touches nearly the same amount of topics, from the biological perspective of Marine Bio. If the information proves too dull for a younger audience the pictures are very nicely rendered and detailed to color on their own. I highly recommend it to anyone who thinks they might be interested in marine life and is not too stuffy to enjoy a good color. ^_^

I took a Marine Biology class and this coloring book helped me learn the topics better than the actual text book! I am a visual learner and when you talk about layers and which animals are in each layer of sand, I will remember easier using this coloring book than I would reading it in a book. You learn about life cycles and reproduction cycles of animals and again the pictures and descriptions in this coloring book very much helped me learn better than the text book did. Plus, it is always fun to color!
