About the Author

Peter Castro realised that he had to become a marine biologist during a high school field trip to thecoral reefs in his native Puerto Rico. He obtained a B.S. in biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, but left the warm Caribbean for warm Hawaii to obtain a Ph.D.in marine zoology from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Michael Huber was immediately fascinated by aquatic organisms when he caught his first trout on an Alaskan lake at age two. His interest in marine biology continued to grow over his ensuing school years, and he went on to obtain B.S. degrees in zoology and oceanography from the University of Washington in Seattle. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I'm not a student, just a guy who wants to learn new things. I became excited about marine biology after reading 'The Highest Tide' by Jim Lynch. Finding this introductory text took me in to a world I never knew. The descriptions and photos make the reading both enjoyable and easy to understand. I know it is a lot to take in on the first reading...but I will be reading it again and again. If this is a new interest for you...start with this book. You can't go wrong.

Delivery was a little slow but it arrived in good shape. The book itself is really interesting. I bought it for a refresher course i am taking and i will also use it for the marine biology class i will be teaching next year. It is a good book for upper division high school and lower level college classes.

I absolutely love marine biology so I was happy to have this book in my hands.
It's really informative and well structured. Great use of pictures for examples and it's really easy to read.
Would highly recommend this book for those who are into marine biology and want to learn more.

I saved myself about a 100 dollars buying the old version of this book that I needed for school. It's a lil beat up but works for me.

product listing for the textbook offered a hardback version for one price and a paperback for a lower price. I chose the paperback version to save money. I even paid extra to have it shipped more quickly.
Imagine my son's frustration today to receive the book he DOESN"T need! Now I'm having to pay to ship this useless book back and buy the actual TEXTBOOK, and wait another 2 days for it to arrive. That makes 2 weeks for this drama to unfold and 2 weeks that my son hasn't had his textbook. Thanks, Amazon for being so concerned with upselling that you screwed up and wasted MY money.

Was under the impression is was the ACTUAL book. It is not. Very disappointed and will not buy again. Why would I buy a book of questions based on the actual book? I don't know I would give no stars.

Good condition, no writing in it, easy to read, and it's a hardback!! Plus it's fairly cheap for a textbook. I'm glad I bought it.

I ordered this book for a class I'm taking about a few days before the class started, shipping estimated that it would come in the second week of class. 4 days later (only 2 classes) later my doorbell rings! Not only was it fast, it is in perfect condition!
