4.0 out of 5 stars A great reference on Marines and their uniforms
Cureton's book is a wealth of knowledge packed into a relatively tight format. Although all of the books in this series are very informative, most do not span the time frame that this book does.(It covers roughly 1800-1991) The book has a very good mix of color and black and white photos with accompanying text. This will be a gift for my nephew. He has shown interest in the Marines; and this brief history will be a good reference for him. He should like it.

Cureton's book is a wealth of knowledge packed into a relatively tight format. Although all of the books in this series are very informative, most do not span the time frame that this book does.(It covers roughly 1800-1991) The book has a very good mix of color and black and white photos with accompanying text. It is written in such a way that the beginner could follow easily, but yet still provides the valuable information that the student of military history seeks. Many of the photos are rare shots from the National Archives and the Marine Corps museum in Washington D.C., that the uniform collector, or military modeller will find indespensable. Also included are examples of rarely seen womens uniforms and that of Navajo codetalkers. I highly recommend this book to beginners in the field of military history and uniforms, and it would be a welcome addition to the collections of serious military and Marine Corps buffs alike.

This review is from: US Marine Corps (G.I. Series) (Paperback)
This book contains the illustrated history of the American Marine from 1775 right up to the Gulf War. The narrative is maybe too short and precise, but the photos and artwork are outstanding. Anyone interested in military history, weaponry, and the fighting soldier will find this book a gem. It has a large number of old black&white photos with stories attached, so the reader knows what was happening and what the proper uniform was at that time. The military ladies in the early Marine days are also discussed and covered. An excellent book - semper fi!
