This review is from: Marine Corps Tactics (Paperback)
First of all, the tactics are not about Mariner Corps itself, is more related to war in general and it's very, very basic. If you are a war literature addicted, jump this. But if you are a beginner trying to get basic principles go ahead. It should call "War Basic Tactics and it's Definitions".

Why does the United States Marine Corps accomplish so much with so little?
Why do Marines prevail where much larger units fail? There is a reason why Marines are sent in first, even when much larger army units are available. The smallest branch of America's armed forces GETS RESULTS, ...right away! The Marine Corps, always a work-in-progress, is constantly re-evaluating itself, finding improved means of accomplishing the mission. Well, all modern military units do that to one degree or another. However, the Marine Corps, more than any other branch of service, expounds upon a unique Warrior Ethos and Esprit de Corps that encourages aggressive offensive action against an adversary, ...encouraging initiative and innovation in even the most junior personnel. From 1775 onward, we have seen on countless occassions, an individual Marine with rifle and bayonet, making an enormous impact on the battlefield, precisely where it was needed. We have seen amazing deads of valor commited by small units, where a clever corporal or sargeant improvised and adapted in the face of what would generally be considered impossible odds. We have seen commisioned-officers who lead from the front, guiding an under-strength platoon, company, or battalion against a numerically superior enemy in heavy fortifications, ...to destroy that enemy in his own trenches! Whether alone or in groups, Marines make a difference. The Marine Corps is not just a branch of military service, its an institution, a philosophy, and a state of mind. This collection of essays illustates the tactical concepts that drive Marines to succeed on the field of battle. |
