Customer Reviews

The light is very clean and bright, and the blue setting looks really cool.

The two way option of white light and blue light gives you great light for both day and night with the flip of a switch!

The flat glass lid on the aquarium rests perfectly on top of the light with no problems.

This product can be used one of several ways. The intended use is to clip it to the lip of your tank, making the lighting act like recessed lighting inside the tank. You can adjust the angle of the light, which is quite convenient. Actually pointing the light toward your glass has the effect of almost front-lighting your tank because of the mirror effect against the glass (assuming you put the lights on the front-side of the tank). Very interesting lighting effect.

The lamps didn't quite fit the lip of our 180 gallon tank (3 lamps across the front). The ridge was just too wide for these. Fortunately they come with optional suction cups, so the lamps are affixed just inside the front of our tank.

Although these lamps come with a nighttime mode, the only way to activate it is to toggle a physical switch on the power cord, so you can't put that on a timer without purchasing separate bars to be kept permanently on the nighttime mode. That makes it a pretty expensive lighting solution overall.

The light is nice, on the blue side, which highlights certain kinds of fish, but makes our natural tank look a bit too cold. The light is not as bright as we would like, but it's about what we expected given that each fixture is a single bar of lights.

Update: After over a year with these lights, we are still happy with them. When submerged, they tend to grow algae on the surface of the lights. If you can raise them up out of the water, this problem goes away, but the lighting effect is not as bright. However, you gain a good water ripple effect due to being several points of light rather than a continuous light source (like a fluorescent bulb).

So I bought this light for my 10 gal salt tank and it broke with in a month. It got water in it and shorted out. I reached out to Marine Land via email and got no reply after about a week and a half. I sent another email and said that if I didn't get a reply from that email I would be forced to go ahead with my review. After a week I still had no reply. So I gave the product one star on the marine land website. Two days later I got an email saying to mail the product to them and they would send me a new one, and a few days after that I got an email from someone who was obviously further up the chain and she mailed one out to me right away. She was super nice and I told her I would update my review. The new one is working fine (but its only been a week) so I went to the marine land website to update my review and it was gone. The only reviews there were 5star reviews. So Im not sure I trust anything on their website anymore. I will update this review if the new light flakes out.

These LEDs are awesome. I purchased two of the 21" long LEDs for my 55 gallon tank and was so impressed with the difference between florescent hood lighting and these, I took pictures of just the hood lighting and then with these on. Very easy to set up and flexible positioning I purchased one for my coffee table aquarium PLUS my 55 gallon with an overhead LED system! Take a look at the pictures and they will sell you on this product.

This light is super-bright for its size. THe white and blue LEDs run at the same time, but the white is much stronger so you can't tell.(you can also just run the blues) It is very versatile as far as how you can apply it to your tank set-up; clips in to the rim, sits on top of the lid, can be submersed could even be attached to some sort of DIY custom stand pretty easily. I dropped it right out of the package onto the floor and it still works fine so I'd say it gets an A+ for durability. I As far as longevity, I have had 2 running form several months and no burn outs.

UPDATE: several months in and still working very well. Plants growing. (Dwarf Baby Tears, baby tears, glossostigma, windelov java fern, Dwarf Pennywort) (5.6 gallon Fluval Spec V)

A wonderful light that is fully submersible. A word of caution, this needs to be on a timer, because it will produce alot of algae quickly.

As the owner of a 10g, PLANTED tank, I was a little worried that the light wasn't going to be enough. I asked questions and someone told me that for a planted tank, this might/might not work. But I'm a risktaker, so I took the risk of using this knowing that it could possibly make my plants die.

When it arrived, I immediately set it up in the tank. I used it along with a 60w fluorescent bulb for about a week until I had a GSA outbreak. I decided, I have to give this light the benefit of the doubt. So I stopped using the bulb with the LED. I have plants in my tank that require low and moderate to high lighting; Hygrophila Corymbosa, Amazon Sword, Vallisneria, Java Fern and Anubias. I was more worried about the Sword and Vallisneria. BUT after I stopped using the bulb and trimming the leaves of the Sword that had GSA, I've noticed SO MUCH GROWTH. My Val's which were still adjusting to my water and stuff, have now reached the surface of the water and are shooting off runners (about one every other day) and the Swords leaves are growing as well. All my plants are thriving very well using this LED light and I really like it. It's also easy for my to SEE when I'm doing my water changes as well instead of having someone hold the bulb over the tank while I clean the substrate (very risky).

I highly recommend this!
