First of all, this is a lot of filter pad. 312sq inches which is 12"x24". I use it to make "boots" for my over the side filters. I cut and sew them to fit, very easy and fast with a needle and thread. This filters out a lot of junk and your filters last longer inside. I just rinse them when I do my water changes and put them back on. It also keeps your fish from being sucked into the intake, which seems to be a problem with the larger filters, especially for small fish or lazy beta's. My fish swim right up to the filters and pick the food that is stuck to it. A great product and I have made boots for all my tanks.

What more can I say? It's filter floss, it works like intended and it allows me to replace the silly cartridges that most filters come with. I use this stuff in all my filters instead of paying for new cartridges that often come with carbon and other things you don't need on a regular basis.

Seems to work well in my canister filter. The pad is highly porous yet thick, this makes for good pre filter media. It will remove the big stuff, keeping the majority of your media cleaner. Also it is very cheap, this allows you to replace it more frequently. This order of 312in^2 provides a large amount. So you can cut it and create several prefilter pads at a great price.

Works ok as a floss to put in front of biomedia and then replace a couple times a week. However, quilt batting works just as well and it is cheaper. (you can get a big roll at a craft store or walmart..)

This product itself is not strong enough to work as a bio-filter and grow beneficial bacteria for a cycled tank. The pad I cut for the filter fell apart after a couple weeks. When it accumulates waste it shrinks. I lost the bb in one tank and had an ammonia spike. I can't say that this media caused the problem, but I replaced it with another brand. (The Fluval foam pads that I'm using have lasted 12 months). I leave the Fluval pads in the filter to hold the beneficial bacteria. I cut pieces of cheap quilt batting and use it as floss in front of the Fluval pad to catch waste, replacing the batting it as needed, usually twice a week. A roll of quilt batting will last months. I have 4 tanks.

While this product works ok as floss, I have other found other options that work better for me and are more economical.

I bought this material to make replacement pre-filters for my cats' Drinkwell 360 fountain. The pre-made filters are way too expensive. They are made out of the same material as this filter pad. I just cut the size I needs and make two pre-filters to stack on top of each other as the filter is tall. I have enough material for years worth of pre-filters. Great product!

used to replace stock filter media. Is 3x as thick so have to work it a little to slide it into the slot but water is 5x cleaner and has so far lasted 2x as long and still going!

The manufacturer of our canister filter doesn't offer a replacement filter pad of any significance other than a very basic one and searching lead to this reasonable alternative to try out. It will yield about four filters for our basket template and the illustration on the package indicated a suggested usage that we decided to use: a lower layer of filter pad, then a layer of granulated activated carbon, then another layer of the filter pad. This will give you almost complete mechanical filtration -- we opted to place a trio of graduated sponges before the filter pads in order to have the grosser material removed before reaching the filter pads. Works extremely well.

Been using for 2 months in small tanks. Cover intake so it doesn't suck up baby fish. Loosely cover outlet pipe of too strong pump so it doesn't blow fish, plants, or sand all over the tank. Cover, but not block, holes into filter area in back of tank where baby fish can enter. Cut pieces to fit into any filter. Light color so grime can be seen and you know when it is rinsed well and when piece needs to be replaced. Use old piece or old filter as template to cut new piece.
