If you are looking to replace old Pyrex, Marinex is an outstanding choice. Marinex is made of borosilicate glass, which is what made old Pyrex dishes wonderful. It is more tolerant of heat and cold changes than many other competitors. The glass has a very slight blueish tint.We needed a small round glass casserole dish with glass lid for cooking a single serving (sometimes two servings) of vegetables in the microwave. This dish is perfect for that purpose. The packaging was wonderful and it arrived without a scratch. (I have ordered quite a few Marinex glass pieces in the last month and all have arrived in mint condition.)

The quality is fine, but - this does not hold 23.7 liquid ounces. It holds more like 19 ounces of liquid; the extra 4.7 oz come from the convex (outward blown) lid. It will hold 23.7 DRY ounces.

I purchased this small casserole about a year ago. Its the perfect size for two people.I haven't found any complaints yet. I use it in the microwave for cooking veggies and I also use it for making tuna salad. Its a great size for keeping left over rice. I take it from the fridge_right to the microwave. When I make hummus, I like to store the hummus in this dish. I also bake small apple crisp in this casserole. This dish is in constant use.

GENERALThe "made in Brazil" Marinex casserole dish is very similar to Pyrex or Anchor round casserole dishes, but the edges are a little less rounded, and the glass has a slightly bluish tint. PRICE & STACKABILITY $16 (the price at the time of this writing) is a tad expensive---my grocery sells 20 oz Anchor covered casseroles for half the price. However, Amazon usually has returns or caseroles with slight cosmetically imperfections for about $10 (I've bought two of these with no problems). Both the casseroles and the covers stack well, and the lid may be used as a "saucer"---handy because it cools faster, and makes a hot casserole easy to carry to the table. In contrast my similar Anchor casseroles do not stack well, and the lid cannot be used as a "saucer".) SIZE By my measurements, it holds about 22 oz. It is about the ideal size to microwave 2 servings of vegetables. Or it is the perfect size for a 1-dish lunch or dinner for 1-person. (Actually, it even makes a nice cereal bowl). Cook and serve in one dish. Great for a one-person casserole, particular with cheese crust. SMALLER IS BETTER Why not just use your 1 1/2 quart round casserole? Because it is the steam in the vegetables (including potatos) which actually cooks the vegetables in a microwave. If you try to cook vegetables uncovered in a microwave, they just dry up without cooking. Really, try it. I dare you. Try to cook fresh string beens in a microwave uncovered---it can't be done. Did you know that you can cook potatoes perfectly in a microwave?--in about 5 minutes? The secret, it turns out, is to use the smallest covered dish possible. SALVAGING UNDERCOOKED RICE Everyone who regularly cooks rice occassional gets a pot of wet undercooked rice. Putting the pot back on the stove for another 15 minutes just makes "glop", not well-cooked rice. The Marinex 23.7 oz casserole perfectly holds 1 1/2 cups of cooked rice (make from 1 cup of dry rice). Pack your undercooked rice in the casserole and microwave for 5 minutes, and the rice will be perfect. HONEST! IT REALLY WORKS!!! STORAGE Although fine for storage, there are similar Anchor and Pyrex glass storage containers are cheaper and work better. Yes, the storage containers have plastic lids---but that means that they seal better (I even use them for moderately long-term storage in the freezer). Of course you have to take the plastic lids off to heat the contents---but the glass lids of the approximately corresponding glass casseroles (or ordinary porcelain saucers) will fit adequately if you need a lid when you are microwaving-warm.Pyrex 1072164 Storage 18-Piece Round Set I have 1 dozen each of the 1 cup, 2 cup, and 4 cup sizes---and sometimes ALL are in use. 5-MINUTE SOUP The casserole is wonderful for making "home-made" Ramen Noodle soup. Place a block of Ramen Noodles in the dish, sprinkle the dried flavor over the noodles, add cooked meat or diced vegetables. I suggest the addition of 1 tablespoon of olive oil and Braggs Aminos (or Soy Sauce) to your taste. Pour boiling water from your teakettle over the noodles. Cover and let set for 5 minutes, or microwave a few minutes if you'd like the vegetables (if any) cooked a little more. Great soup with no cleanup, except the casserole dish itself. 5-MINUTE POTATOS Pack small potatos into a covered casserole, as many as will fit---microwave for 5 minutes. That's it. Alternatively, for mashed potatoes, dice a potato into 1/2" or smaller cubes, pack tightly in a covered casserole, and microwave for 5 minutes, then add mayonaise or butter and mix with a fork. If you use baking potatoes, you'll need to add some milk or buttermilk. I use Yukon potatos for mashed potatoes. If you use a larger casserole and more potatos increase the microwave time. HASH BROWNS In a mandolin Zyliss Easy Slice Mandolin, White cut a potato into "match-sticks". Mix with several tablespoons of vegetable oil. Pack into a small covered casserole. Microwave 5 minutes, let cool. Broil or fry about 5 minutes. I acually use a "griddler" for the purpose Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler

I got told so many people to stop using plastic Tupperware, but I didn't want to buy new stuff, so I decided to invest in glassware that I could keep at work, but I could throw my food in to heat up so that I wasn't poisoning myself with plastic byproducts. This has been a great asset for me to have at work. It's easy to wash, light weight, and versatile.I did buy the medium sized one first, but that was heavier and bigger than I expected, and I chipped it within the first 2 weeks. The instruction says that once the glass chips that it can't be used in the oven anymore, so I can't even bring it home for its original casserole purpose... but oh well, I have the small size which is not chipped (knock on wood), and I love it!

ideal microwave dish,

Although slighlty high in price for a small dish, this is ideal for several reasons:- it allows you to heat up small dishes in microwave without using plastic wrap. Not only do you save on the wrap, but supposedly plastic wrap can migrate to your food. Further, usually you have to stir half way through... much easier than plastic wrap that is hard to reapply. - ideal for storing small amounts of leftovers - then reheat - I use almost daily to cook a small amount of frozen veggies.. just add a teaspoon of water. They come out great. - so far have bought two. They do stack to save space. - note- almost impossible to find a small dish with a glass lid.

This glass casserole dish with glass lid works great for cooking and serving. Easy to use in the microwave and conventional oven. Clean-up is great. Storing leftovers is a breeze because you can easily see what is inside. Can also use as a soup bowl or serving dish. Stacks easily to save cupboard space.

This review is from: Marinex 23.7-Ounce Small Round Casserole with Lid (Kitchen)
I find this product to be to hard to handle. The lid barely stays on and when you put it in or out of the oven it falls apart easily. The handles are too narrow and difficult to hang on to especially with hot pads. The quality of the dish itself isn't very substantial either. I would not buy this again'

I thought this would be about a quart size but it is much smaller.... not sure I will ever use this. It is nice glass and nicely made however.

Excellent small dish for heating up vegetables and other small items in the microwave, which is what I bought it for. I should probably note that the directions say that you're not supposed to put the dish into a pre-heated oven - you're supposed to let the dish heat up with the oven (it's good up until something like 550 degrees). Depending on what you're cooking this could limit it's use in the oven. If it wasn't for that limitation, I would give this five stars. (If you're comparing this to the CorningWare SimplyLite dishes, I bought one of those at the same time and the directions say to pre-heat the oven first before putting in the SimplyLite dishes.)
