Product Description

Marinex Glass Bakeware production began over 50 years ago by Santa Marina, the largest glass manufacturer in Latin America. Located in Brazil, Santa Marina has been producing different glass products since 1895. The factory location is close to raw material deposits of boron and sand which is rich in color and quality. During the production process, these raw materials are combined using heat to make borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is resistant to changes in temperatures used in cooking and baking. The raw materials also give Marinex glass bakeware a slight bluish tint consistant throughout all pieces. Marinex Glass Bakeware offers several shapes and sizes that have countless uses in culinary activities and are prominent by their beauty, durability, and ease of cleaning. It can be used to prepare, bake, and serve food as well as to freeze prepared food. It is safe for both conventional ovens and microwave ovens. Marinex Bakeware can go from the freezer/refrigerator to a pre-heated oven where the oven temperature does not exceed 100C or 212F to start. However, Marinex Bakeware should not be used on stovetop burners or over a direct flame. This is a medium 2.5qt. round baking dish and is 10-1/4" diameter x 2-1/4" with grip styled handles at each end. All Marinex bakeware is dishwasher safe. Item #GD16223713.

I've had this casserole for a while, and I'm quite pleased with it.

Pros:
- The lid is very high - high enough that you can turn it over and use it as a second baking dish.
- If you turn over the lid, it will nest into the bottom for storage
- The handles have little nubs on them to improve your grip when the casserole is wet, or when you're using potholders.

Cons:
- The casserole is slightly smaller than the standard 8"x8" that most recipes call for in a baking dish (I think it's metric sized), and the casserole and lid are both strongly tapered, so the bottoms are even smaller. (The "10-inch" capacity that Amazon states is the measurement including the handles)

I use this to bake large sweet potatoes (two side-by-side) and small squash, and it would work well on regular potatoes as well. For casseroles, you'll get about four servings. It also makes a pretty good (and different-looking) cookie jar.

I just love this; it is both sturdy and elegant.

It can be used as one single covered dish or two uncovered ones. Filled to the brim, the base holds 10 cups [2 1/2 qt] and the "lid", 6 cups [1 1/2pt]. Realistically, they hold 9 & 5 cups respectively. Each is 10 3/8" long [including handles], just right for my microwave.

12/22/11 I liked this so much I got a 2nd one. Unfortunately, the thin piece of bubble wrap between the base & the lid let them hit together, so both were chipped when they arrived. I'm hoping I can get through the Amazon bureaucracy & get a partial credit rather than having to return them. They are useable, so returning then [at my expense] doesn't make sense, as a replacement might get damaged as well. And it would be advantageous to Amazon as well, but bureaucracies often have tunnel vision.

The lid was packed right on top of the base and arrived with two chips in it. Before returning I decided to measure the volume of the base as it appeared smaller than the 4 1/3 quarts advertised. It holds 2 1/2 quarts, the balance of the volume is in the lid; that appears to be true of their items with lids. The packaging of the Marinex 5.7 quart soup casserole which I also bought shows the base with 4.3 quart capacity, leaving the lid with 1.4 quart capacity. It too was shipped glass to glass with only a thin sheet of cellophane type material between them. Fortunately it was undamaged. I hope the seller reads these reviews and reformulates the packaging and provides a more accurate capacity description for items with lids/covers.

The Casserole is okay but it was not what I expected. It was just too small for me.
