Great for No Knead Bread, April 10, 2009
This review is from: Mario Batali 4-Quart Essential Pot, Persimmon (Kitchen)
This 4 qt. pot is the right size to use for the No Knead Bread method and without fail the bread comes out crispy on the outside and nice and chewy with big holes on the inside. The lid has "spikes" to help retain moisture, which aids in the crispiness of the crust. It was either Mario Batali's or a Staub for me, but I'm glad I bought this over the Staub because of its everyday value and of course the price. I also use it to boil pasta and to make stews & curries because it retains heat for a long time. The handles do get hot, but if you use Kevlar gloves you should be fine if you do bake bread in it. It also sits beautifully on the stove. Buy it!

Fantastic enameled cast iron pot!, December 10, 2009
This review is from: Mario Batali 4-Quart Essential Pot, Persimmon (Kitchen)
Hello everyone! I was lucky enough to score this pot through the Lightning Deal (by the way, I missed out on a similar-sized Pesto MB pot during the previous Lightning Deal, but I did NOT feel bitter about it, because you win some, you lose some, right?) All I did was immediately click on the "Add to cart" button, and within seconds, it was added to my cart, that was all there was to it, no biggie complicated procedures.
Anyways, coming back to the review of this item the pot is all that I expected and more. Starting with the color, it is a beautiful orange color and even though I shirk away from "made in China" pots/pans/cookware, I must say this is a very well-made pot, and I could not see any physical imperfections anywhere on the pot, exterior or interior. I used this pot right away to make a batch of lentil soup, and I was impressed with the even heating, the size and shape of the pot that allows easy accessibility for the spatula/spoon, the ease of cleaning it, etc.
I own about 9 Le Creuset pots, sizes ranging from 5 QT to the largest Goose Pot that is 13 1/2 QT, not counting the small LC Pumpkin one, and 2 Staubs, so I am NOT the person to keep any unwanted pots. But believe me when I say that this MB 4 QT Persimmon pot IS for keeps - this little guy is not going to be returned! Hope this review helps anyone on the fence whether or not to buy this pot.

I like this pot a lot. It does make difference in cooking beef stew. I used all kinds of pots, this one so far is the best.
