4.0 out of 5 stars Great Pan, February 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mario Batali 4-Quart Risotto and Saucier Pan Chianti (Kitchen)
I love cast iron cookware. I also really really love LeCruset but they don't have a 4 quart pan that is appropriate for making sauces. This pan is perfect for that use. I've propbably already used it at least twice a week and it has preformed very well each time. Allows one to cook at a very low temp and get just the exact right amount of a slow simmer with no sticking or burning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, January 13, 2010
This review is from: Mario Batali 4-Quart Risotto and Saucier Pan Chianti (Kitchen)
We are Le Creuset obsessed. However, we ran into a problem when we couldn't find a large sauce pan. The largest sauce pan from Le Creuset was too small for some of our needs, and while we could have gone with a smaller round oven, we wanted a saucepan handle. I stumbled across this sauce pan and debated whether I should get it. Over the holiday's we found it deeply discounted at a brick and mortar store and determined the size was precisely what we were looking for and the price was one we couldn't refuse.

I'm so happy with our purchase. It performs exactly to our expectations and appears to be just as high quality as our Le Creuset cookware. I'm now exploring purchasing more from Chef Batali's cookware collection.

If you are accustomed to cooking with cast iron and enameled cast iron cookware, this is a beautiful and high quality product. It has the heft and heat retention loved by us for the cooking qualities and the enamel finish for beauty and easy clean up.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Pot, November 2, 2009

I recently received this pot for my birthday. I have made not only risotto in it, but a few batches of soup too. Its very heavy, but I grew up cooking in all cast iron, so its what I expect from a pot. What inspired me to write a review was that the other night I put some split pea soup on to cook and then ran over to the store. I guess I didnt turn down the heat far enough because when I returned there was about a quarter of an inch of burned split pea soup on the bottom of the pan (of course everyone in the house just wondered what that smell was instead of checking the stove). It took me less then ten minutes to clean the pot completely! The burned mess scraped off very easily and then all I had to do was scrub a little. I love this pot. It made up my mind to register for this collection for my wedding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to my kitchen!, January 28, 2009

I bought this as a treat for myself. I love the weight and the even heat distribution. Most of all, I love how the risotto was ready so much quicker than with my old pot (a leftover from my mother's day... over 50 years old).

The pot itself is very energy efficient, and I bought the Mario Batali Risotto spoon as well - they fit together perfectly. The Chianti is a beautiful color and sits well on my pot rack for all to see. Cleanup was easy, too! LOVE IT!

Great pot...heats evenly. The best thing is that this lid also fits the MB saute pan which makes the saute pan more useable. Interchangeable lids are so useful. Chianti is such a pretty color.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this saucier!, February 14, 2008
This review is from: Mario Batali 4-Quart Risotto and Saucier Pan Chianti (Kitchen)
Great saucier for the money. It's very heavy. I have 2 beefs though:

1. Don't use metal utensils in this saucier. It will leave marks on the enamel. It likely says this somewhere in the instructions, but we of course found out the hard way.

2. There is no pour spout on the side, so when you pour liquid out of it, it drips all down the side of the pot. Very annoying.

But-- the pot does a fabulous job of heating things evenly. It's also easy to clean. I've used it to make the best chili I've EVER made, and my husband has already used it for many things-- melting chocolate, beschemel sauce, risotto, etc. This is definitely a quality item, and the only thing I'd rethink on a future design is the lack of a pour spout. That has caused some messy clean-up in our kitchen, for sure.
