Product Description

Combining old-world charm with modern-day accent, this 6-quart pot nicely accommodates hearty stew or soup, pastas, roasts, and more. The cookware's durable cast-iron construction provides exceptional heat retention, while its porcelain-enamel interior and exterior requires no seasoning, cleans easily, and comes in a variety of classic colors for a beautiful presentation on virtually any dining-room table. Self-basting spikes on the interior of the pot's close-fitting lid ensures continuous, natural basting, and its cast stainless lid knob makes for easy lid removal. Oven-safe up to 500 degrees F and safe for use on gas, electric, and ceramic-top ranges, the pot comes equipped with two looping side handles to ensure safe transport to and from the oven. Washing the pot by hand is recommended for best results, and a 16-page booklet with recipes from Mario Batali's latest cookbook, Molto Italiano, is included. The 6-quart pot measures 13 by 13 by 7 inches and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and functional, May 21, 2007
This review is from: Mario Batali 6-Quart Italian Essentials Pot , Chianti (Kitchen)
This is a beautiful pot, with great style and color. It's just as functional as the more expensive French model, but without the high price. The white interior stains a bit, but I still like it because the white makes it easy to see changes in sauce or roux color. A wonderful addition to my kitchen!

3.0 out of 5 stars Chiped and Stained, September 26, 2008
This review is from: Mario Batali 6-Quart Italian Essentials Pot , Chianti (Kitchen)
As much as I love cooking in this pot and just looking at it because it is really beautiful, the first time I used it the handle chipped even though it was handled carefully. The second time I used it, I made a lentil soup and the bottom of the pot discolored. It did not burn and I used a low flame but it still discolored. I have used Le Creuset Dutch ovens for years with absolutely no problem. I don't think I will purchase any more Mario Batalia Dutch ovens since they seem to be inferior. I am very disappointed because it is really a beautiful looking pot, especially in the Chianti color.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but chips and stains, December 20, 2009

This review is from: Mario Batali 6-Quart Italian Essentials Pot , Chianti (Kitchen)
I purchased this Dutch Oven because it is beautiful and the price is mid-range. When I got it home I washed it by hand, handling it very carefully, and placed it in a plastic strainer while I washed the lid. I had thoroughly inspected it coming out of the box, it was fine, after washing it had two chips in the handle. Cooking with it is great, it retains the heat well, heats evenly and the lid is snug, but the third washing produced another chip on the curve of the bottom and the interior stained. I went back to the store where I purchased this Dutch Oven and was told except for two (one being mine), all the others sold were returned. While this Dutch Oven is still usable I didn't want to have to check it for new chips every time I use it; I've replaced it with a Lodge enamel covered 6-quart Dutch Oven which provides the same benefits in cooking but doesn't chip or stain. The price for the Lodge was half of what I paid for this one.
