Mario Botta: Architectural Poetics is the newest book in the Universe architecture series. This volume presents the work of the Swiss-born architect who worked as an assistant to such architecture giants as Le Corbusier and Louis I. Kahn before starting his own firm in 1970 and achieving international fame. Botta' characteristic respect for topographical conditions and regional sensibilities, his deft craftsmanship and the importance of geometric order in his work are evidenced in thirty projects that range from smaller residential buildings to such grandiose projects as the Church of San Giovanni Battista, the Jean Tinguely Museum and, most famously, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. This detailed study also includes the designs he created for furniture and the stage. Mario Botta: Architectural Poetics is a thorough survey of the architectural and design work that launched Botta into the pantheon of modern architecture.

About the Author
Irena Sakellaridou, a practicing architect, has published extensively on issues of architectural semiotics and on the analysis of architectural form and composition. She has comprehensively studied and written about the work of Botta, and most recently she has collaborated with Botta on several major design projects.

Architects transcribe their thoughts and emotions through their designs, forms, and spaces. Botta is without a doubta master in his own right. But what compelled me to write this review is the "text", the writing. The author of the book is a practicing architect who has worked along side Botta. She seems to really understand what lies at the heart of architecture in General and Botta's design philosophy in particular. If you are a student of architecture READ this book. If you love to contemplate beautiful creations READ this book. And finally if you are a fan of good writing I urge you to read this book!
