Book Description

December 2001 Hockey Heroes
A very special title for a very special athlete: hockey enthusiasts both young and old will grab this engrossing biography of Mario Lemieux. Wonderfully researched, beautifully written, and most of all, filled with an exciting collection of color action photographs, it captures Lemieux's unique skills throughout his stellar career. When this hockey superstar announced his return to the NHL in December 2000 after a three-year absence, no one doubted that he would once again become the most explosive scorer in the league. No player has anything like his history of spectacular comebacks, from injury and even cancer. And, when he graced hockey once again with his brilliance, he set another new record: not only does he play for the Pittsburgh Penguins, he's also the owner!

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gr. 4-8. No series titled Hockey Heroes would be worth its name without a book on Pittsburgh Penguin legend Mario Lemieux. Playbyplay of critical games and accounts of Lemieux's numerous records and awards share the pages with ample full-color photos in this largely all-business, career-oriented biography. There are also a few memorable anecdotes: when Montreal winters of his youth grew too severe to trudge to the ice rink, Lemieux and his two older brothers packed their carpeted living room floor with snow and made their own hockey rink. Young hockey fans will enjoy the portrait of the superstar player, renowned for the determination and strength that brought him back to the rink as player and owner despite back surgery and debilitating cancer treatments. 4.0 out of 5 stars Mario Lemieux (6-7), February 18, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mario Lemieux (Hardcover)
Mario started playing hockey when he was just little. When Mario was about eleven years old he had good talent for his age. He was first drafted to Pittsburgh, But he refused to play here because of the salary. Mario got Hodgkin's disease when he was in Pittsburgh, But he soon came back and started scoring again. Mario married a girl named Nathalie.

I liked the book because it was interesting. The pictures were really good. There are little captions that tell more information like how many trophies Mario won. I thought it was really good and I would rate the book 7 out of 10.

I would recommend this book if you like to watch or play hockey.
