4.0 out of 5 stars Let the Games Begin March 23, 2008

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Another winner for Nintendo DS lovers. Using the same high quality 3D animation used on Mario Kart DS, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is packed with action. There are two teams, but the question is what are the teams? The title suggests Mario characters vs Sonic characters. The instruction book seems to suggest hero characters vs villain characters. Bottom doesn't matter. The whole point is to do your best in the events no matter which character you choose.

The characters are:

From the Mushroom Kingdom:
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Wario, Waluigi, and Bowser.

From Mobius:
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Blaze, Vector, and Dr. Eggman.

The selection of events is impressive.
100m Dash, 400m Dash, 400m Hurdles, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Javelin Throw, Hammer Throw, 100m Freestyle Swim, 10m Platform Dive, Trampoline, Vault, Archery, Table Tennis, Fencing, Skeet Shooting, and Cycling. Plus, there are several special mini-games you can unlock.

So far, I kick butt in Archery, Javelin and Trampoline. I really suck at Skeet Shooting. It takes speed that I haven't yet developed. Also, the cycling has some complex controls I have yet to master, but I shall! I'm so-so at Table Tennis (Ping-Pong to us old timers), but watching those super charged finishing moves is always a blast. It's nice that some games are difficult to master. No point in making everything too easy.

Bottom line, this game rocks. Definitely a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let The Games Begin October 11, 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Sadly, I don't even know who placed first overall in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Luckily, I've got a copy of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games to experience the excitement all over again for myself.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (MS@OG from here on out) has many events in several sport types including athletics, aquatics, gymnastics, archery, table tennis, fencing, shooting and cycling. There are also "Dream Events" which are all locked at the beginning of the game which put fantastic spins on traditional events. The game encompasses most of the Olympic disciplines and you will see familiar events such as the long jump, table tennis and basketball. Although some of the events are a little less typical, they are all Olympic events.

And what fun is it to play these events as one of your favourite video game heroes or his friends. Sonic and Mario bring along their pals so you can kick butt as Luigi or Tails, Dr Eggman or Bowser, Princess Peach or Amy. In all, there are 16 characters divided by type (power, all-around, speed and skill) to choose from and everyone will have his favourite.

There are 3 standards modes of playing for single player in MS@OG: single match, circuit and mission. As the name implies, you can choose any single match in any sport with any character in "single match." Most events consist of 3 rounds and your scores are either added or averaged to determine the winner and the top 3 competitors earn a bronze, silver or gold medal.

There are 3 circuit classes - Beginner's, Advanced and Master's - each containing 5 circuits made up of several events from different sports. The circuits involve a special opportunity to win called the "Circuit Chance" which will double the points you earn in 1 chosen event.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun! February 18, 2008

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I think this game is a lot of fun! There are lots of different olympic events like swimming, track and field, cycling, and table tennis just to name a few. The events are very realistic to real olympic events. You get to compete for medals and be any character that you want! There are also eight dream events that you have to try to unlock. That is the one problem I have found with this game. The dream events are very hard to unlock. I have unlocked some of them, but I have tried everything I can think of to unlock the others but nothing seems to work. But overall, this is a fun game and definately worth buying!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great game for the DS December 28, 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I received this as a gift and in only 3 days, I am addicted. Some of the sports are challenging to play, and certain characters are out of place (such as Tails trying to throw the hammer), but that is what I like about this. Enough parts are easy to keep from being frustrated but challenging enough so that it is not boring. A very nice touch is the gallery in which there are challenges to meet on 5 different levels, which also give Olympic triva lessons. No matter your skill level or your interest, you should find something you like to do with this game. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game for ages 12 and up January 9, 2009

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game for myself but thought it would be okay for my two children to play, ages 7 & 6. I love the game although there are many steps, controls, and actions, etc to remember. It's really not age appropriate for younger children under 12 because of this reason. Any adult or older child would have fun playing it though. There are many different modes to play it in and the game is very challenging. You use all the buttons and your stylus for the game, sometimes separately and sometimes together. I'd recommend it to anyone who is a Mario or Sonic fan or anyone looking for a game that has a few challenges.

why is this so over priced... I remember picking this up at gamestop for less than 20$
