Book Description

January 30, 2009
Late 1974, the X-Cult are rock’s mega super stars and riding high in the charts. From the Maracana and Copa Cabana to Milwaukee and Hollywood, life is barmy for the X-Cult but not for its leader Lars Brunner, who finds himself at the cross-roads of life, as he battles the demons of a failed marriage, the ghosts of his father’s past and the torments of fame, fortune, trust and ultimate betrayal. Lars is spun adrift after his wife, Annie, is found dead in mysterious circumstances and he is accused of her murder. From Texas to the Canary Islands and onwards to the Pyrenees and Basque Country, the marionette drifts, pulled by the strings of fate into the unknown and into love and secrets that lead to a nightmare unimagined… “You know Renee; there are days when I pinch myself, hoping to wake up from this deathly nightmare. But nothing happens. There seems to be no end to the twists and turns my life is taking. I ask myself why? Why do I have to go through all this? Why is it happening to me? I feel like a marionette…” About the author: Stephen O. Boyo was born in England, and lives and writes in London.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Riveting Novel of Great Global Suspense, May 24, 2009

This review is from: The Marionette Adrift (Paperback)
American rock `n' roll excess, World War Two persecution and a vivid but brief European freedom struggle combine to dramatic effect in Stephen O. Boyo's fictional novel The Marionette Adrift. I read this novel on a very long plane trip - and I am so glad I did. The Marionette Adrift portrays an incredible year in the life of America's famous X-Cult singer Lars Brunner, a man with the world at his feet yet ill-at-ease with fame and exposure. However, tremulous incidents revolutionize his life and set him adrift. Pulled by the strings of fate, Lars' journey leads to Las Palmas, where he unwittingly becomes a fugitive and meets the beautiful and mysterious art student Renee De Haro. Both are guilty of concealing dark secrets from each other. But as their relationship deepens in Barcelona and Bilbao, Lars becomes embroiled in the dangerous world of Basque civic pride and militant terrorist activity. Along the way, Lars uncovers a past he thought was long dead and buried before descending into a nightmare. Traversing continents in a breathlessly dangerous and absorbingly dramatic fashion that entwines romantic devotion, subterfuge and mysterious murder, The Marionette Adrift is a dynamic, literally explosive work. Highly Recommended!
