5.0 out of 5 stars Professional Marionette Design!
I have been building and designing marionettes for over 30 years. I studied and worked for Bob Baker, Tony Urbano, Rene, and Albrecht Roser. From this broad experience of marionette performers, I feel this book is the best available source for design and technique involving marionettes. 5.0 out of 5 stars Professional Marionette Design!, March 18, 2008
This review is from: Marionette Sourcebook: Theory & Technique (Paperback)
I have been building and designing marionettes for over 30 years. I studied and worked for Bob Baker, Tony Urbano, Rene, and Albrecht Roser. From this broad experience of marionette performers, I feel this book is the best available source for design and technique involving marionettes. Luman Coad pulled from the best resources and created a"sourcebook" that will give professional puppeteers information that few have studied or stumbled upon. Marionettes are difficult. The design of the string puppet makes the manipulation so much easier when the theories found in this book are used. At this point, I think of this book as the bible for marionettists.

There is next to nothing available that describes the techniques of marionette making. This book, while not a step-by-step primer, gives a wide selection of illustrations that provide a guideline for designng the body of a classic marionette. I've found it very helpful and it has provided me with ideas that I probably would not have come up with on my own. I'm glad that I purchased it.

I have many marionette and doll making books in my library... this is not the prettiest, but it is the best resource for making marionettes.

1.0 out of 5 stars big disappointment, September 8, 2011

Very little practical information. Very poor diagrams. I always tell myself not to buy a book online without being able to "look inside", and yet I still do it.
