This review is from: Marital Power Exemplified In Mrs. Packard's Trial And Self-Defense From The Charge Of Insanity: Or Three Years' Imprisonment For Religious Belief, By The Arbitrary Will Of A Husband (1870) (Paperback)
Even given the somewhat difficult dialect in which it is written, Marital Power Exemplified, is an eye-opening, first hand account of how America's mental health system used to be. It is a heart wrenching story of one woman who lost her freedom, and her dignity, at the hands of her husband. I recommend this book to anyone who has a loved one in the current mental health system, or for any history enthusiast. The past cannot be forgotten, lest it be repeated.
