This review is from: Maritime: Jean-Pierre Ferey plays Cras (Audio CD)
You may not be familiar with the music of Jean Cras, but this wonderful CD will make you want to go out and search for more works by this talented French composer. Although most of his time was spent fulfilling his duties as a Rear Admiral in the French Navy, Cras managed to compose a sizeable amount of music. His piano works evoke the spirit of the sea and the mystery of distant lands, much in the same manner as his compatriot Deodat de Severac managed to capture the feel and smells of his beloved French countryside in his piano music. Jean-Pierre Ferey expertly conveys the haunting beauty of this music, and the recording is of the highest quality. If you love French piano music and are searching for something other than the usual Debussy/Ravel fare, do yourself a favor and purchase this disc.
