can you imagine an album that involves so many genres in it, many that aren't even of electronic origin? You'll get Maritime.

This album is insanely infectious and yet hard to define, but that won't be a problem since you'll be too busy enjoying how well it flows.

An instant favorite in your collection, guaranteed!

Though I have instant favorite tracks on this album... It still took me a while to love the whole cd. After listening to the disc as background music for a while, I have grown to appreciate it. Overall, it's very quirky and fun.

Overall, Minotaur Shock's third full-length release is fairly solid as far as the somewhat arbitrary "folktronica" genre goes. As with Rinse and Chiff-Chaffs and Willow Warblers, Edwards forces the audience to strain to discern a specific melody in any given song, though here he takes an entirely different approach to doing so. The subtle piano lines found in songs such as "The Range" have been replaced with a near cacophony of synth lines that are at certain points overwhelming. While it is a decent listen, it is a definite departure from his more IDM minded releases.

The highlight of the album is most likely "Vigo Bay", a strange mix between glitch and synth pop that honestly defies categorization. There aren't any distinctly remarkable moments on Maritime that other artists haven't explored with more finesse, though I doubt any first time Shock listeners will be thoroughly disappointed.

this is a great album that you all need to check out. it combines the sensibilites of good indie rock like the notwist and the beta band, mixes a little folk vibe and spins what could be a boards of canada version of a happy day. the sounds on this disc dont eminate hazy sunhine filtered through the memories and dark corners of your mind. instead they are abundant fields of lush green, clouds streaming across the sky, breaks of light in golden rays. it is electro but it is raw and formed with natural textures. it will shake you but it will also move you. do yourself a favor and take a few spins. the subtle shifting electronics mixed with strings and guitar shuffles.

Though it's essentially elevator music, if you throw on the ol' headphones you'll find that there's a lot going on in there. I put this on at work and all my coworkers were like, "This is really neat. What is this?" It sounds like Takako Minekawa or a laid back Stereolab to me. It's interesting and well-constructed, but sometimes is forced into just background music.
