5.0 out of 5 stars A worship experience
Mark Lowry has the marvelous gift of combining humor with a deep Christian message. He's a talented singer, too! He begins the show by poking fun at all the different denominations, and closes the show by reminding us that God loves us all the same.

2.0 out of 5 stars So-So
I think Mark Lowry is absolutely hysterical. I love the way that he describes various life situations. I love the way that he can make light of trials that he has been through by using comedy. I love that he can still teach/preach through comedy. I also love that he has a beautiful singing voice. But, I don't necessarily want them blended together. This DVD is...

5.0 out of 5 stars A worship experience, September 24, 2005
This review is from: Mark Lowry Goes to Hollywood (DVD)
Mark Lowry has the marvelous gift of combining humor with a deep Christian message. He's a talented singer, too! He begins the show by poking fun at all the different denominations, and closes the show by reminding us that God loves us all the same.
Actually, this concert could be called "Mark Lowry and Friends," because he shares the stage with several artists who shine in their own segments. The list includes:
Stan Whitmire: a talented pianist
LordSong: a vocal trio comprised of husband and wife Michael and Kim Lord and their friend Amber Franks
The Isaacs: a gospel/bluegrass group without too much twang and with lovely family harmony
Vocalists Reggie Smith, Michael English, and the legendary Bill Gaither
The "ReMarkable" choir: they don't just sing, they worship.

At the close of the concert, Mark Lowry sings lead as the entire cast joins in on the powerful song, "Isn't it Amazing?" It is simply wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait, September 14, 2005
By
This review is from: Mark Lowry Goes to Hollywood (DVD)
(First, I disclose that I attended the taping of this video, so I've been awaiting this one very eagerly.)

Don't be fooled by the "Mark Lowry Goes to Hollywood" title. This video doesn't have the production numbers or dancers found in the "Mark Lowry On Broadway" video. Instead, it takes a more subdued, primarily worshipful, approach. Its main goal is to present the message that Mark Lowry and guest artists LordSong and Stan Whitmire have taken around the country for the past couple of years: that God is a loving God who is crazy about us.

The package this message is put in is a first rate presentation, with fine performances from the aforementioned LordSong and Whitmire, plus Michael English, Reggie Smith, the Isaacs, a guest appearance by Bill Gaither and the inspiring "ReMarkable choir" (actually the Revival Tabernacle choir of San Diego, featuring "Exalting Him" contest winner Karen Harding).

Of course, there's Mark himself. Poking fun at age or the various denominations throughout the audience, or holding the audience enraptured with his emotion-filled beautiful voice, Mark has what is known as "that thing". Call it charisma, anointing, or whatever, it's that magnetic quality in which you don't take your eyes or ears off him.

Mark's fans have been waiting for this one, and it's worth the wait. I'm confident they will take this video to the top spot as they did with the "On Broadway" video.

This DVD is really good but I just didn't feel as if there was enough comedy and too much singing. I personally would have preferred if there was more comedy. It's a good and funny DVD and I definitely enjoyed it. If you are only a fan of Mark's singing or comedy, but not both, then I don't think you will enjoy this DVD as much (although you can fast forward through the parts you don't like). However, if you like everything about him, then you will love this DVD. I would definitely recommend it, especially for family viewing because it is good, clean and uplifting fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars I really like this guy.., September 9, 2005
This review is from: Mark Lowry Goes to Hollywood (DVD)
I have eagerly awaited this DVD. I really like this guy. Unfortunately, not one of his best.

The comedy is good but not nearly enough. Actually, the comedy is great but not nearly enough.

I could listen to him sing all day. Make It Real always strikes a nerve.

My biggest complaint is way too many other people besides him. If I'm getting a Mark Lowry video, I'm more than happy to see just him. The other people were okay, but like I said, I would rather have just him.

He has an amazing way of getting his message out without having that preachy-thing going on.

Only 4 stars. Get rid of the other people + more Mark and it's up to 5.

One more thing, Mark bring that God Is Crazy About You tour up to New Hampshire.

I thought it was very good. Mark does a great job of keeping the show moving along and delivers a powerful message as well. Lordsong is not my favorite christian group but they did a credible job. The Issacs were great. I would recommend this DVD highly.

I bought this for my Dad who is terminal with Cancer to give him something to make him laugh and forget about the pain for a while. It served that purpose beautifully. Mark Lowry is a Christian comedian so if you are looking for contemporary raunch you will be disappointed. If you want good clean comedy it is quite good.

My first DVD and we love him! Put his DVD on after a stressful day and you'll feel all the stress of the day leave as you laugh and sing along with Mark and his guests. I highly recommend and plan on buying more of his DVDs!
