Solid debut from a promising singer-songwriter, September 6, 2000
This review is from: Mark Schultz (Audio CD)
I purchased Mark Schultz's debut album based on a few reviews I had a read and on the premise that his music was similar to Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith, some of my favorite Christian artists. After listening to it a few times through I am convinced it is a VERY solid debut album with a few gems that will be in our collective musical memories for quite some time. The first cut on the album, "I Am the Way," is a great wake-you-up song that will be sure to get your juices flowing and "feeling up." it's extremely catchy in a Michael W. way - not quite a "Missing Person" but extremely memorable. the next song, "Let's Go," suffers a bit from the Billy Joelish beginning chords and "The Great Adventure"-ish chorus, but is nonetheless a spunky effort. after these two upbeat openers we are treated to schultz's vocal prowess on "he's my son," a song sure to bring tears to just about everyone's eyes. it's a touching tribute to a mother whose son battled with leukemia, and it's receiving A LOT of airplay. the rest of the album features a diversity of musical styles (from jamaican to adult contemporary to upbeat country) as to keep things moving and avoid the freshmen tendency to have every song sounding the same as the others. my wife and i made use of the song "learn to let go" at our wedding for the father-daughter dance - the song fits perfectly. the closing song, "remember me," may be the real jewel of the album, with powerful lyrics written from God's perspective and nice duet work by Ginny Owens. it's probably my favorite song on the album...altogether, a solid effort from a promising singer-songwriter who should continue to receive accolades from the industry and fans alike.

Soulful Journey, June 17, 2000
This review is from: Mark Schultz (Audio CD)
I was listening to our local pop station in Dallas/Fort Worth the other day when "He's My Son" came on the air. I instantly fell in love with this song and had to hear more. To my surprise, after listening to the entire CD, every song is as good and meaningful as the next. His fast paced pop tunes as well as his heart-wrenching ballads deliver their messages without flaw. With a crystal clear voice and beautiful instrumentation as is on this album of songs, Mark Schultz is a name we will see at the top of the Christian and pop charts many times in the future.

Music that touched my heart., November 13, 2000
This review is from: Mark Schultz (Audio CD)
I heard Mark Schultz when he opened for Fernando Ortega in Baltimore just six months ago. He sang a song that was touching, but did not mean so much to me at the time. On August 27th, our fourth child was born, 13 weeks premature. In this current age of technology, such a premature infant survives more frequently than they did even ten years ago, but our little boy had an uphill battle nonetheless. Four or five weeks after he was born, I heard this song again on the radio, while my own sone was still in the hospital. My wife and I both cried right there in the car. 'He's My Son' brings tears to my eyes each time I hear it, even though Ethan is now home with us. For me, that song was enough to purchas the CD. Mark Schultz is one of those artists who can write a song to touch a heart, not just entertain. I have enjoyed the entire CD, with 'When You Come Home' being another favorite.
