Solid debut from a promising singer-songwriter,
By Chris Smith (Gold Canyon, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mark Schultz (Audio CD)
I purchased Mark Schultz's debut album based on a few reviews I had a read and on the premise that his music was similar to Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith, some of my favorite Christian artists. After listening to it a few times through I am convinced it is a VERY solid debut album with a few gems that will be in our collective musical memories for quite some time. The first cut on the album, "I Am the Way," is a great wake-you-up song that will be sure to get your juices flowing and "feeling up." it's extremely catchy in a Michael W. way - not quite a "Missing Person" but extremely memorable. the next song, "Let's Go," suffers a bit from the Billy Joelish beginning chords and "The Great Adventure"-ish chorus, but is nonetheless a spunky effort. after these two upbeat openers we are treated to schultz's vocal prowess on "he's my son," a song sure to bring tears to just about everyone's eyes. it's a touching tribute to a mother whose son battled with leukemia, and it's receiving A LOT of airplay.the rest of the album features a diversity of musical styles (from jamaican to adult contemporary to upbeat country) as to keep things moving and avoid the freshmen tendency to have every song sounding the same as the others. my wife and i made use of the song "learn to let go" at our wedding for the father-daughter dance - the song fits perfectly. the closing song, "remember me," may be the real jewel of the album, with powerful lyrics written from God's perspective and nice duet work by Ginny Owens. it's probably my favorite song on the album...altogether, a solid effort from a promising singer-songwriter who should continue to receive accolades from the industry and fans alike.

Soulful Journey,
By Charles Hunter (Euless, Texas) - See all my reviews

I was listening to our local pop station in Dallas/Fort Worth the other day when "He's My Son" came on the air. I instantly fell in love with this song and had to hear more. To my surprise, after listening to the entire CD, every song is as good and meaningful as the next. His fast paced pop tunes as well as his heart-wrenching ballads deliver their messages without flaw. With a crystal clear voice and beautiful instrumentation as is on this album of songs, Mark Schultz is a name we will see at the top of the Christian and pop charts many times in the future.

Music that touched my heart.,
By Sean M. Lynch (Catonsville, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mark Schultz (Audio CD)
I heard Mark Schultz when he opened for Fernando Ortega in Baltimore just six months ago. He sang a song that was touching, but did not mean so much to me at the time. On August 27th, our fourth child was born, 13 weeks premature. In this current age of technology, such a premature infant survives more frequently than they did even ten years ago, but our little boy had an uphill battle nonetheless. Four or five weeks after he was born, I heard this song again on the radio, while my own sone was still in the hospital. My wife and I both cried right there in the car. 'He's My Son' brings tears to my eyes each time I hear it, even though Ethan is now home with us. For me, that song was enough to purchas the CD. Mark Schultz is one of those artists who can write a song to touch a heart, not just entertain. I have enjoyed the entire CD, with 'When You Come Home' being another favorite.

WOW! I liked every song on this CD! There is a song for everyone on this CD. Mark Schultz takes you on a wonderful fulfilling ride for your soul. It was like a book you couldn't put down, each song with a new message and you want to sing along. There's rock you songs like "I Am The Way", and "Let It Go", and songs that speak to your heart like "He's My Son", "When You Come Home", and "Remember". If you like Steven Curtis Chapman, you will love Mark Schultz. Thanks Mark for a very special and well produced CD.

Mark Schultz,

I heard "I Am The Way" on the radio while at work one day. I liked it after the first hearing. Then I listened closely to catch who was singing the song. When the DJ said Mark Schultz, I went online as soon as I got home to discover who the artist is and what brought him into this spotlight. Aside from Fernando Ortega, I like Mark's "I AM THE WAY", best. When my co-workers hear the song they ask to turn the volume up (because of factory noise). His music is exciting and powerfully alive. He has vitality and heart feeling all centered in a meaningful and worshipful message. Now if you "young" people think what I've just written sounds OK, I need to let you know that I just turned 60 years of age in 1999. Mark Schultz writes and sings with a clear voice and a vital message we all can benefit from. I predict and hope that he will be on the top ten list for years to come. I thank God for songs with spirit, feeling and a message that takes a listener closer to our Creator. Praise God with Mark Schultz and feel the power! Enjoy the blessing!

It will take your breath away,
By Aaron Blight (Westminster, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mark Schultz (Audio CD)
Mark Schultz's debut album is packed with uplifting, memorable tunes. This album demonstrates that Mark has the talent to be hugely successful in the world of Christian and adult contemporary music: he's got an impeccable tenor voice and a gift to write beautiful, engaging songs backed by substantive, meaningful lyrics. This album is like fresh air when you're suffocating, like food when you're starving, like light when you see nothing but darkness. The music on this disc ranges from the most infectious, high-voltage, energetic pop you can imagine to the most beautiful, heart-wrenching ballads you've ever heard. The opening tracks, "I Am The Way" and "Let's Go", hit you like lightning - there's no way to withstand the fast, uplifting, irresistible choruses in either of those songs. Then Mark changes pace to deliver one of the most emotive ballads I've heard in years: "He's My Son" is a song Mark wrote as he watched a friend deal with his son's leukemia. The rest of the album is replete with songs of comparable magnitude. The slower songs include: "When You Come Home", "Fall In Love Again", "Cloud of Witnesses", "Learn to Let Go", and "Remember Me". The upbeat, up-tempo balance is found in "When You Give", "I Saw The Light", and "Legend of McBride". "When You Give" is a magnificent song that draws upon the power of gospel singers, who blend effortlessly with Mark's soaring vocals - it's a great ride! "Remember Me" is a gentle request to remember God in your life; a perfect ending to this inspirational album. Mark Schultz's debut album is a welcome addition to my CD collection. I highly recommend it!

This CD should be recognized for a Song of the Year -He's My,
By Kenneth Arnold (Phoenix, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mark Schultz (Audio CD)
This CD is a very fine initial offering from a talented singer and songwriter. It provides a range of musical styles and solid vocals. Every review here is saying the same thing. What I want to add to the attention Mark Schultz is getting here is that I really believe he has created one song that stands out so significantly over the rest of the songs, not only on this CD, but in Contemporary Christian and Contemporary Pop music this year, that it should earn Song of the Year, and I can certainly see Schultz receiving a Dove Award for this work. The power, passion, and simple grace and beauty of this song, "He's My Son," is overwhelming. I cannot hear it without being moved to deep emotion. What a gift this singer has to deliver this song so passionately. What a gift this songwriter has to deliver such a moving tribute, and what a gift he has given to the Baird family for whom he wrote it. This CD is solid without this song, but it is priceless with "He's My Son" on it.

WOW! Michael W. Smith LOOKOUT!,

I was fortunate enough to have met Mark Shultz before he had a CD. He is not only a great singer/songwriter, as you will witness on his debut CD entitled Mark [Shultz]. He is a great person. He was a cast member in the International group Up With People and stayed at my home with my wife and me. He was kind, thoughtful and a pleasure to be around. And as an alumni of Up With People, I am proud to have had the opportunity to say I knew him when...Because, MARK SHULTZ will be a household name within the next year or so. His songs are powerfull as well as his vocal performance. This is a CD to own whether you are a fan of Christian music or a fan of great pop music. All of the songs are radio friendly and will leave you yearning to hear them again and again as well as humming them in your head all day. This is a great debut record from a soon-to-be Star!

Unique and Breathtaking...,
By Shawn Elmore (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA) - See all my reviews

Mark Schultz ROCKS! I think this is the best album so far this year. He has true vocal talent. You know what I think is kinda neat? When he sings fast songs, I think he sounds like Steven Curtis Chapman. And when he sings slow songs, I think he sounds like Michael W. Smith. I think that is neat. I LOVE "I Am the Way", "Let's Go", "He's My Son", "In Love Again", and more. I also think it is neat that every single song on this album was written by him, and him alone...with God's power that is. Watch out for Mark Schultz. I believe he will take Christian music by storm.
