... especially when they're as talented as Mark Wills. I was fortunate enough to see him perform at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center in California in May, 2002. I took a friend of mine along who was unfamilar with Mark. As I have all of Mark's CDs, I made her my own version of "Mark Wills' Greatest Hits" cassette for her to listen two weeks before the concert so she could familarize herself with Mark's songs before we went. He is a great performer as well as great singer. This CD would make a nice "any occasion stocking stuffer" for anyone who doesn't know Mark Wills and his music. I like the CD because it takes his songs cronologically through his hit tunes and albums. Glad to know my favorite song, "Wish You Were Here" is included. As much as I enjoyed Mark's songs, this one sort of "fused me at the hip" with Mark as it started getting radio play at the time I lost a beloved pet. There hasn't been a song out in a long time that has affected emotionally as much as this one did. I still get teary eyed when I listen to it. Don't want to spoil it by telling you about the song. Suffice to say, you should listen to it first if you haven't heard it and judge the impact on your own feelings and emotions. Mark seems to have an innate knack of selecting songs that will take you back to thoughts, feelings, and experiences in our lives as we have grown from being a child to an adult that we can all relate to. His voice is soothing and smooth and has a great range for the ballads (Mark at his best!) and the up beat tempo songs. I sort of liken him to a "younger" George Strait in talent and personality and one of the best new faces and talents in country music today. This is a nice CD for anyone who would like to get to know Mark's past hits. The only thing that surprised me a bit was that there are only 11 songs on the CD. Would have liked to have had two or three more to round it out a little better. I have my own suggestions, but would ask those who think it is too short also to be creative and come up with their own additions to tailor-make your Mark Wills "CD" to your own preferences as you fill in your collection of his CDs. Whoever coined the phrase, "Nice guys finish last," would to amend that old adage after listening to Mark Wills and his songs!

Good tunes, just lacking in variety,

After four albums of varying quality and success since 1996, Mark Wills and his likeable tenor have put out the inevitable hits collection. It is arranged in chronological order. Thus, after the gently rollicking leadoff track "Jacob's Ladder," we get eight ballads in a row. Aside from the poignant message "Don't Laugh At Me" (Wills' best recording to date), these romantic-oriented odes ("She's In Love," "Back At One," "Wish You Were Here", etc.) - while well made - tend to be similar. It's a shame that the lesser charting yet endearing honkytonker "High, Low, and In Between" and the mid-tempo stomper "Loving Every Minute" weren't added for balance. The final two new tracks, however, do find Wills expanding his musical horizons. "Nineteen Somethin'" - already one of Wills' most successful singles - is a humorous, quick paced spewing of remembrances from the '70s and '80s. "When You Think Of Me" is a power ballad that shows us what Wills is really capable of vocally. Hopefully, Wills will continue to search for new sounds in the future. He's far more than just a romantic balladeer.

Excellent Collection of Great Ballads!,

Mark Wills has such a smooth sound, that he gives country ballads a new name. With tear jerkers like "Wish You Were Here" and "Don't Laugh at Me," he makes his mark as a balladeer in country music. At the same time, he gives an upbeat walk down memory lane with new tune, "19 Somethin'," causing us to reminisce about growing up in the 1970s and 80s - just a fun song! Like "19 Somethin'," Mark also adds a new ballad, "When You Think of Me," which is sure to be a hit on country radio, as well. The entire album is chalked full of great tunes, ballads, and fun stuff. You'll cry, you'll reminisce, and you'll smile as Mark takes you on an emotional and sentimental journey. Even if you are not a big Mark Wills fan, you will love this album! Cheers to Mark Wills for reminding us what country music is all about!

I bought this CD for my sister for Christiams and got a chance to listen to it after she opened it. Mr. Wills has an amazing voice, and his selection of songs is moving. I am pretty sure this is one that I will need to buy for myself soon.

Here it is, after so long!,
This review is from: Mark Wills - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The GREATEST HITS of the man who defined the '90s country ballad. Mark Wills, one of the best dang singers in the business, has finally released his greatest hits CD. (A little side note: this album rates only four stars, because this album is not complete; what about "High Low and In Between," "Everything There Is To Know About You", and any other singles I'm missing? A song doesn't have to top the charts to be considered great.)The tunes here are arranged in chronological order, to give you a brief run-down of Will's career. Start with the fluffy-yet-engrossing "Jacob's Ladder," and head into the ballads. One after another, ballads, ballads, everywhere. Not necessarily Will's fault; he just happens to have a knack for singing them. These ballads include: the tear-jerking "Wish You Were Here"; the empathetic "Don't Laugh At Me"; the Brian McKnight song, "Back At One" (Wills's version much better than the pop original, of course); and the duet with Jamie O'Neal, "I'm Not Gonna Do Anything Without You." Two new songs present themselves for our enjoyment: the current smash (and a plain ol' awesome song) "19 Somethin'", and the haunting "When You Think Of Me." Mark Wills has proven himself time and time again to be a phenomenal performer. His voice has a way with your ears; it twists your ear canals and enters into your heart and soul. Sure, this album is a little down-trodden with ballads, but that isn't really a bad thing. All that counts is that these are elven good songs; eleven greatest hits, for your enjoyment.

Just to have a CD of Mark Wills' biggest hits is worth the purchase of this disc. Mr. Wills is one of the best country talents to come on the music scene in the last few years. His talent also has a lot of "cross-over" appeal like Faith Hill. (example: listen to Mark's arrangement of "Back At One.") With his incredible voice and range, he has the ability to sing different "types" of songs. His latest hit "19 Somethin'" is included on this CD. A wonderful song that follows Mark's trend of choosing songs that let us reflect on actions and thoughts in our lives as we have grown up. If this is your first Mark Wills CD, it will leave you longing for more with just 11 songs on the playlist. You will want to purchase his other CDs after listening to "Greatest Hits" to truly appreciate the treasure this man's talent is.

I listened to this album and its got some great songs on it, however I'm very surprised over one song omitted...Loving Every Minute! I love Mark Wills but for the life of me can't figure out why this #1 song wasn't on this album.I recommend this album for any Mark Wills fan or even pop fans who've heard his song Back At One sung by Brian McKnight.
